Cicada3301 Ransomware Targets VMware ESXi with Advanced Encryption Techniques Cicada3301, a new ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) operation, is rapidly targeting global companies, focusing on VMware ESXi systems. First promoted on June 29, 2024, this cybercrime operation has already listed 19 victims on its extortion portal. Despite its name, the group has no connection to the 2012-2014 Cicada3301 cryptographic puzzle. Truesec’s analysis reveals striking similarities between Cicada3301 and the ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware, suggesting a potential rebrand or a connection with former ALPHV members. Both ransomware variants are written in Rust, use the ChaCha20 algorithm, and deploy identical VM shutdown and snapshot-wiping commands. Cicada3301’s Linux encryptor specifically targets VMware ESXi systems, using sophisticated encryption methods that maximize damage. NVIDIA Introduces ‘Easy Button’ for Enterprise Generative AI Workflows NVIDIA has launched the NIM Agent Blueprints, a comprehensive catalog of pretrained, customizable AI workflows aimed at simplifying the development of enterprise generative AI applications. These blueprints cover a range of use cases, including customer service avatars, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and drug discovery virtual screening. Justin Boitano, NVIDIA’s Vice President of Enterprise AI Software Products, described the blueprints as “runnable AI workflows” that can be modified by developers to meet specific business needs. Built on NVIDIA NIM, a set of microservices for rapid deployment, the blueprints are designed to accelerate the creation of enterprise AI applications by offering reference code, customization documentation, and deployment tools. The initial offerings include workflows for digital human customer service, multimodal PDF data extraction, and generative virtual screening for drug discovery. These blueprints are free to download and can be deployed in production using the NVIDIA AI Enterprise platform.
