Our Executive Director, Carol Shrieve had the pleasure of spending a day in Washington D.C. this past week to discuss the next phase of restoration for the historic Carnegie Library of Homestead with U.S. Representative Summer Lee and her team, as well as the offices of U.S. Senators John Fetterman and Bob Casey. We discussed how this project will benefit thousands of residents throughout the Mon Valley for another 125 years. Libraries are essential institutions that play a crucial role in our society. They are dynamic and socially responsive, serving as a hub of diversity and a lifeline for the most vulnerable members of our communities. We are grateful for the hard work of government officials who support the critical role that libraries play in promoting prosperous communities.

300+ student-athletes and community members joined us Sunday afternoon for our Pittsburgh Hardball Academy screening of Beyond Their Years: The Incredible Legacies of Herb Carnegie & Buck O’Neil. The inspiring stories of perseverance by these black sports trailblazers (hockey & baseball, respectively) were followed by a lively panel discussion featuring the filmmaker and community leaders. The event was noted to have, "As diverse a crowd as you’ll ever see in Pittsburgh." Thank you to the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, The Carnegie Initiative, & Carnegie of Homestead for helping bring #BlackHistoryMonth to life! Pittsburgh Penguins Delvina L.
