Driving Sustainability Forward: Crafting Compelling Stories & Strategic Communications for a Greener Future
Wow, it's been four days since I came home from the 2024 Sustainable Brands conference. I am still (and will continue — over the next weeks and months) unpacking the rich content presented by so many thought leaders in this space, and from vastly different industries. I was deeply inspired by the visionaries on the plenary stage (shout-outs below); gaining insights on how amazing brands are driving brand value and business growth through social and environmental innovation. At every turn there were opportunities to connect with attendees, speakers, vendors and sponsors alike. Bonus, I made a few friends too and had a unique opportunity to connect with the (early birds of the) conference community via leading morning yoga. I hope to make this an annual event. Many thanks to Rhonda Motil of J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines and Sean Carroll of Jackson Family Wines for ensuring we had tasty and sustainably-produced California wines to enjoy at happy hours, mealtimes and social receptions. We're loving this release from the United Airlines Newsroom highlighting new in-flight wine offerings featuring aluminum cans (a sustainable packaging option) and wines produced by women-owned brands adhering to sustainability practices set forth in the SIP Certified and Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing programs. "This transition to aluminum canned wine will reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles by an estimated 4.7 million bottles per year. Aluminum is nearly infinitely recyclable and supports United's commitment to sustainability at all altitudes, including recycling onboard its aircraft." 👏🏽👏🏽 https://lnkd.in/gfC6esJg Photo: United Airlines Newsroom

View the newly released 2023 Certification Report and Appendix, an annual benchmark of the major accomplishments of Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing (CCSW) and certified vineyards and wineries at the link below. The report notes that 45% of California’s 610,000 winegrape acres are CCSW certified and that 90% of the 255 million statewide cases of wine are made in CCSW wineries. Both are significant increases from 2022. https://lnkd.in/gCbJwjAe

In case you missed it: Wine Institute, California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance and California Association of Winegrape Growers hosted a webinar featuring a presentation on the new indoor heat regulations for employers that are now in effect. California's Office of Administrative Law has approved new regulations that require employers to take action when indoor temperatures rise above 82 degrees and further steps at 87 degrees.
