Yesterday, the Law Office of Maria Kari and CAIR announced a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of State for failing to evacuate Palestinian-Americans and their families trapped under Israeli bombardment in Gaza. Despite exhausting non-legal means, plaintiffs eligible for evacuation have been ignored by the State Department. The lawsuit, filed in California, Illinois, and New Jersey, argues that the State Department’s inaction violates the Fifth Amendment’s guarantee of equal protection, highlighting a disparity in how Americans of different backgrounds are treated in conflict zones. Attorney Maria Kari: “The State Department must do the right thing and save these people from certain death.” Attorney Yasmeen E.: “My own family has suffered the devastating consequences of the State Department’s inaction. The State Department must act to evacuate our clients now, before another soul is lost.” CAIR’s Gadeir Abbas: We simply ask the State Department to treat Palestinian-Americans the way it treats Americans of other backgrounds when they’re trapped in conflict zones.” See the lawsuit: https://lnkd.in/dfJ72DEw CAIR Sacramento Valley/Central California, The Council on American-Islamic Relations, New Jersey (CAIR-NJ), CAIR Chicago, Tasneem M., Substrate Creative Agency

The Airwars report confirms what we already knew: Israeli leaders have been deliberately targeting civilians in Gaza since the beginning. This is no surprise—Netanyahu and his regime openly announced their genocidal intent and have spent months carrying it out. The Biden administration will forever be stained with the crime of genocide for failing to stop some of the worst mass killings of civilians in modern times. https://lnkd.in/d73HF6cy

The Israeli occupation’s murder of Palestinian grandfather Khaled Nabhan is just the latest example of what it has done for years: wiping out generations of families. If President Biden has a conscience, it should be impossible for him to witness the slaughter of a fellow grandfather and continue to fund the killing of more families. We ask God to reunite Khaled with his granddaughter in the highest rank of paradise, and we pray that God holds their murderers accountable.

Last week, we designated Case Western Reserve University and Portland State University as “Institutions of Particular Concern” for targeting anti-genocide protesters and creating hostile environments by repressing free speech and academic freedoms on campus. We call on these universities to uphold free speech, equity, and safety for all students and staff. Report hostile campus environments: https://lnkd.in/dA8zKkZ8

Our Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell joined CNN’s Victor Blackwell on First of All to discuss the release of the The White House’s long-delayed National Strategy to Combat Islamophobia and Anti-Arab Hate. During the interview, Edward said the strategy has positive recommendations but has been released too late, fails to make any changes to federal programs that perpetuate anti-Muslim discrimination, like the Orwellian watchlist, and does not address the biggest driver of rising hate: the Biden-backed genocide in Gaza. Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) reposted this
Earlier this week while in Washington, DC I had the honor to meet and stand alongside heroes - American doctors and nurses that had recently returned from volunteering in Gaza. During a press conference put on by Doctors Against Genocide commemorating the international day for victims of genocide they shared, along other healthcare professionals from around the world that have been to Gaza, consistent harrowing testimonies - documenting how Israel is systematically targeting civilians, particularly children. They explain what forced hunger looks like, the devastating impact of the lack of the most basic medical supplies. They witnessed with their own eyes Israel’s ethnic cleansing and genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza and despite the trauma of it all, come back and share their incredible eye witness testimonies - to urge us to act, as a global movement. Another American doctor shared how her Palestinian husband’s family had lost almost 200 members in Gaza - all innocent souls whose lives were unjustly cut short. The fact that it must be repeated that the tens of thousands that have been killed and continue to be killed are real people, with families that love them, like you and I, shows the extent of dehumanization Palestinians have endured. We are living through a genocide. And yes, it is important to use that word, because there remains no doubt that is exactly what is happening, on all of our watch. Receive inspiration from these brave American healthcare professionals. Use your voice, speak out, do whatever you can in your particular capacity. History will judge us all. https://lnkd.in/d8q--SJh

Today we designate Case Western Reserve University and Portland State University as “Institutions of Particular Concern” for targeting anti-genocide protesters and creating a hostile environment by repressing free speech and academic freedoms on campus. Both universities have reportedly created hostile environments for Palestinian, Muslim, Arab, and allied students and faculty through discriminatory policies and failure to address harassment. We call on these institutions to uphold free speech, equity, and the safety of all students and staff. 👉 Report hostile campus environments: https://lnkd.in/dJFFtn8g #UnHostileCampus #FreeSpeech #HumanRights #CAIR
