Dominique was only a pre-teen when her father passed away. She not only lost her father, but she lost the sense of togetherness that her family unit once provided her. Dominique's mother, Cherquentia, was looking for community as she grieved the loss of her husband and wanted a place for her child to belong. Cherquentia discovered Buckner and quickly became involved in programs that supported her as a newly single parent, while Dominique started attending the programs for young adults. "Within the first year in the Buckner afterschool program in Wynnewood Apartments, Buckner became a place of hope, love, and healing," Dominique shared. Dominique and Cherquentia credit their time at Buckner as a turning point for them in a season of grief.
