About us
The Broward Partnership, a 501 (c)(3) organization, is committed to reducing homelessness by promoting independence and self worth through advocacy, housing and comprehensive services. To achieve this mission, the Partnership operates the 230 bed Broward County Central Homeless Assistance Center (Center) on the Huizenga Campus in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Center provides emergency housing and solution-focused services for homeless men, women and families with children. The Partnership uses an innovative model of care to create a safe and caring environment that has helped more than 35,000 homeless individuals and families in Broward County achieve dignified independence. In addition to a safe secure place to stay and nutritional meals, the Partnership's residents receive mental health counseling, primary medical and dental care, substance abuse treatment, case management, education, vocational training, employment services, and support services for the families. The Partnership accommodates up to 120 men and 40 women as well as 70 family members in the special family dormitory wing. The average stay at the Center is 60 days. Additionally, there is capacity to house 50 individual men during weather emergencies such as extreme cold weather.

November is National Homelessness Awareness Month. Homelessness is more than just a lack of stable housing; it is a complex issue that does not discriminate and profoundly impacts one’s health and well-being. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about the critical issue of homelessness and the complex challenges faced by those who experience it. It’s essential to deconstruct the stigma surrounding homelessness. The perception that people experiencing homelessness are “lazy,” “substance abusers,” “crazy,” or “choose to be homeless” is far from the truth. The contributing factors are often much more complex than they appear. Increasing awareness is crucial to dispel these stigmas and prevent the criminalization of people experiencing homelessness. At the Partnership, we continue to promote awareness and address homelessness through education, fostering a more inclusive environment with trauma-informed and culturally competent advocacy and services, ensuring that individuals are treated with dignity and respect. This month resonates deeply with our mission and core values. Many individuals experiencing homelessness face significant barriers to accessing healthcare, legal resources, and essential social services. Broward Partnership is committed to reducing homelessness by promoting independence and self-worth through advocacy, housing, and comprehensive services. This effort is supported by the Broward County Board of Commissioners and in collaboration with other community partners. Collectively, we are answering the call and working to assist those in our community. On October 22, 2024, Broward Partnership CEO, Tom Campbell Ruthardt and CPO, Ellianna Dorvil, LMFT-QS, along with many other community service providers, received a proclamation in honor of National Homelessness Awareness Month from the Broward County Board of Commissioners. As stakeholders, champions and advocates consider ways you can help promote awareness of homelessness and assist those who are impacted.
