What is an NG Tube, well you might need it if you can’t swallow or if your stomach needs a break used to remove stuff like excess gas or fluids sometimes for feeding or giving meds. Who needs one, it could be a lot of things! If you have a stroke and you can't swallow, blockages in your intestines, severe acid reflux or eating disorders. Also used after surgery to help heal, basically your stomach’s backup plan! #BCSimCenter #BCProud #TaskTrainer #Thriving for #Excellence

Simulation Center is full downstairs with Radiography learners! Today our Simulation Technicians will be teaching them how to properly insert a Foley Cather! Barbara Genader Carolina Hoyos Inserting a Foley catheter is a medical procedure that should only be performed by trained healthcare professionals, as it involves sterile technique and precise handling to minimize the risk of infection and injury. For best patient safety outcome studies include that having two healthcare workers in the room while inserting a catheter leads to less mistakes and margin of error #BCProud #Radiography #TaskTrainers #Thriving for #Excellence #PatientySafety

OB Nursing Students delivered a healthy baby this morning! They encountered an Umbilical Cord Prolapse, a rare but serious obstetric emergency where the umbilical cord slips ahead of or alongside the presenting part of the fetus during labor. This can result in cord compression, reducing blood flow and oxygen supply to the fetus, which may lead to fetal distress or stillbirth if not addressed promptly. As seen, the students have fun while learning and this is why simulation is so important! Without help and the hands on experience, this situation in a hospital could be fatal since there was a cord wrapped around the babies neck! #BCProud #OBSim #Thriving for #Excellence

Last week, YLB Class XXXVIII experienced a truly impactful and inspiring Health & Human Services Day! The day was filled with powerful learning opportunities and meaningful interactions with organizations making a real difference in our community. The day began with a tour of the Broward College Health Sciences Simulation Center, where the class explored the cutting-edge technology used to train the next generation of healthcare professionals. It was a fascinating look at how innovation is shaping the future of healthcare education. Next, the class visited the FLITE Center, where they were introduced to the critical work being done to support young people aging out of foster care. A heartfelt thank you to Kristina, Felichia, Tricia, Andrew, Shamika, and the entire team for their impactful presentation. The class also had the opportunity to create welcoming Happy Birthday cards for the young people at the center, spreading joy and hope to those starting their journey there. The class then had the privilege of meeting the wonderful therapy dogs of Canine Assisted Therapy, Inc., learning about their life-changing work and experiencing firsthand the comfort these furry friends provide to those in need. A highlight of the day was an important presentation by Dr. Linda Parker, PhD, CEO of Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc., and Lead Education & Prevention Specialist Joan Dominguez. The class gained invaluable insights into identifying healthy, unhealthy, and abusive relationships, as well as learning how to spot red flags and support those who may be in need. The day concluded with a visit to the The Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Inc., where the class gained a deeper understanding of homelessness in our community through an eye-opening presentation and a tour of the facility. The group also had the chance to contribute to the community by donating much-needed toiletry items, which were greatly appreciated by the organization. A special thank you to our Health & Human Services Day chairs—Hiyam Ahmad, Dustin Forman, MS, Linda Parker, Nora Powell, and Lorraine Shim—for organizing such an enriching and impactful day. Thank you vice chair Karen Elliott for always being ready to help. We are also grateful to our Program Day Sponsor, WestCare Florida The Village South; our Parking Sponsor, Broward College; and our Lunch Sponsor, Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc., for their generous support. Lastly, a huge shout-out to our incredible Class Chair, DeAnn Hazey, CFRE, for your leadership and guidance throughout the day. Your dedication made this experience possible! #YLB38 #CommunityImpact #HealthandHumanServices #LeadershipInAction #MakingADifference

Tours always are an opportunity to give potential students a chance to engage in what a health science major will encounter during their college experience. To actually hype up the tour they got to see how much exertion goes into giving someone CPR! Hoping we inspired some today to picture themselves here as students of Broward College! #BCProud #SimLife #ProudofourTeam #Thriving for #Excellence
