This is big. Brimstone was selected for a transformational $189 million investment by U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Industrial Demonstration Program. No one knows more about decarbonizing our economy, or about what it will take to achieve global impact than DOE. By backing Brimstone’s commercial demonstration plant, the DOE has offered jet fuel to accelerate our scale-up and path to market. Since Day One, we’ve believed that decarbonizing cement requires developing a product identical to the industry-standard portland cement that builders everywhere know and trust. The process would need to be extremely low-carbon, and cost-competitive at full scale. DOE’s investment in Brimstone is a powerful validation of this approach and our work. After a highly competitive process, we’re thrilled to be among the 33 companies chosen to be part of the largest industrial decarbonization effort in U.S. history, one that will create clean jobs, transform sectors, and help spur an American-led clean industrial revolution. Let’s build. Transforming heavy industry—starting with cement
About us
Brimstone is on a mission to transform heavy industry, starting with cement—an essential sector responsible for 7.5% of global CO2 emissions. Our team developed an efficient, economical, and deeply decarbonized process to produce ordinary portland cement and other industrial materials. Our process leverages the power of co-production and a carbon-free feedstock to deliver the same industry-standard products trusted by builders for generations.

What a pleasure speaking with Brimstone CEO Cody Finke, Ph.D. at HackSummit in New York! Fifth Wall makes investments at the intersection of technology, real estate, and energy. We have a strategic network of over 110 of the largest owners and operators of real estate globally as Limited Partners, and we collaborate with them with technology adoption. Brimstone, one of our portfolio companies, is tackling the decarbonization of cement, which alone is responsible for roughly 8% of global CO2 emissions. To date, Brimstone has raised over $60 million and were selected for an investment of up to $189 million by the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations | U.S. Department of Energy. Brimstone is solving a long-term problem that requires long-term investment in disrupting a process that's been the same for a hundred years, and we're thrilled to be partnering with them every step of the way. Thanks Arman Anatürk for the invite to give a fireside chat! #venturecapital #proptech

We're looking forward to next week's fireside chat at HackSummit NYC with Brimstone CEO Cody Finke, Ph.D., and Fifth Wall CEO & CIO Brendan Wallace. They’ll discuss market opportunities in heavy industry decarbonization, the power of co-production, and Brimstone's strategy for advancing efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. Don’t miss this conversation—grab your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/e7KsacjC
🪨 Fifth Wall CEO & CIO Brendan Wallace will be giving a fireside chat with Brimstone Co-founder and CEO Cody Finke, Ph.D. at HackSummit on December 13th in at Newlab in Brooklyn. Brimstone is working hard to make a carbon-negative alternative to ordinary Portland cement commercially viable, that also meets the industry standards for use and safety. In this video, Brendan and Cody discuss Brimstone meeting the ASTM C150 standard, and why this key nod of approval is a big step on their journey to making their cement ubiquitous. #deeptech

Brimstone was honored to host Assemblymember Buffy Wicks, representing Oakland’s 14th district, at our R&D facility this week. Brimstone's Senior R&D Manager Eric Manley offered the legislator an insider's peek into the Brimstone Process, showing how we produce the same portland cement used in virtually all construction, minus the massive carbon emissions. We also discussed the critical policies needed to accelerate the commercialization of game-changing cement solutions like ours—specifically, advance market commitments. Long used to accelerate innovation in other industries, from vaccines to clean energy, these government purchase commitments would harness the tremendous buying of the government to unlock private investment and speed up the clean industrial transition. Thank you, Assemblymember Wicks, for taking the time to see our work firsthand and for your support in decarbonizing cement. Brimstone is proud to be a part of the Oakland community. #DecarbonizeCement #IndustrialDecarbonization

Today, October 21, marks the 200th birthday of portland cement. Since its patent was granted in 1824, this miracle material has been the backbone of modern construction. It’s trusted for virtually all kinds of infrastructure, including skyscrapers, bridges, roads, and homes. Portland cement is durable, versatile, reliable, and inexpensive, making it a staple for builders and engineers worldwide for two centuries. Today, portland cement constitutes virtually all the cement used in the U.S. While other types of cement have been developed over the years, these materials have different properties and are primarily used for specialty projects such as deep underground in oil wells. Yet conventionally made portland cement comes at a significant environmental cost. Cement production accounts for 7.5% of global CO2 emissions—about three times the impact of the aviation industry, and nearly rivaling cars. To tackle climate change, we need to clean up cement. At Brimstone, we’re creating the future of portland cement—delivering a material essential to global construction without the outsize climate impact. Our deeply decarbonized portland cement meets the same industry standards (ASTM C150) as conventional cement, but with one crucial difference: it drastically reduces the carbon footprint. We’re not changing the material—just the way it’s made. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eKAERk4v
