A huge congratulations to JDRF Australia and the hundreds of advocates who worked so hard to secure over $50MM in funding from the Australian Government to support #T1D research! Our vision as a global organization is a world without type 1 diabetes. This commitment gets us another step closer to this goal. We look forward to partnering with our Australian colleagues to fund the most promising #T1D research that will accelerate life-changing breakthroughs for the entire T1D community.
🎉 Breaking news: the Government has announced a $50.1m in funding for JDRF’s Type 1 Diabetes Clinical Research Network (T1DCRN). It’s a monumental day for the T1D community, with the announcement made by Minister for Health and Aged Care, Hon Mark Butler MP, at JDRF’s Kids in the House event today. The funding injection will ensure that the T1DCRN can continue to accelerate T1D research breakthroughs. We give our greatest thanks and appreciation to the Government for their support of the T1D community and T1D research. This commitment means we can keep moving towards our vision of a world without T1D. Thank you also to the Coalition for their continued support of the T1DCRN, with Shadow Minister for Health and Aged Care, Senator the Hon Anne Ruston, confirming a matched commitment at the event. We’d also like to say a huge THANK YOU to JDRF’s amazing advocates, who have been at the forefront of this funding ask. They have met with decision makers all over the country to talk to them about life with T1D and the importance of research – with an amazing result. ICYMI, yesterday we launched Project Accelerate Cell Therapies, or Project ACT, a groundbreaking initiative focused on accelerating cell therapies as cures for T1D. Project ACT is designed to fast-track progress by simultaneously advancing research, development, regulatory pathways, access, and adoption of these life-changing therapies. Artificial pancreas, or automated insulin delivery systems, have changed how type 1 diabetes (T1D) is managed. They are helping people living with #T1D stay healthier than ever before so that when cures are realized, they can benefit from them. Douglas Lowenstein, a former member of Breakthrough T1D’s International Board of Directors (IBOD), and longtime supporter of the organization, authored the true story of how these systems went from an idea to a reality, as told by the people who were there and made it happen. The leadership, staff, and volunteers of Breakthrough T1D mourn the sudden loss of five T1D Champions on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024.
