A great take from the Desert Difference Conference last week. AI is changing so quickly that it can be hard to keep up with all the capabilities or have accurate insight on where it will go next. At Bountiful, we see today’s AI as a powerful ally in agriculture—helping to augment and automate time-consuming tasks like accessing current or historical yields in seconds, accurate supply and demand forecasting, detecting pests and diseases, or modeling financial scenarios. We often ask ourselves the question, how can AI help farmers today? Not how can this help them tomorrow. We believe that useful implementation of AI for agriculture will be built on sound structured data. Both the data and models should be guided by industry experts who understand the unique challenges and opportunities within agriculture. The future of AI in agriculture is wide open, and we’re ready to help shape it.

For the third year in a row total almond acreage has declined to 1,525,638 acres in CA. Bearing acres for 2024 are now estimated at 1,383,332 acres. This is less than a 1% increase from last year's bearing acreage meaning that new producing orchards just beat out the removed acreage. Total removed acres for the year are at 66,794 acres. For reference, 2023 removed acreage was at 82,958 acres. In early April, Bountiful released our estimate of 1,362,996 bearing acres for almonds when we released our first yield forecasts.
