We're #BMCProud to join Mayor Michelle Wu and our colleagues from the city’s healthcare and philanthropic sectors to support the creation of the Boston Acquisition Fund. Through this public-private partnership, City of Boston will provide low-interest loans to back the acquisition of multi-family, affordable housing to prevent tenants from being displaced. “BMC first invested in housing in 2017 because we saw the clear connection between housing, health and economic mobility in the communities we serve. This new housing fund will be transformative for many of our patients and will help our neighborhoods to thrive.” - BMC President Anthony Hollenberg, MD We applaud Mayor Wu for leading this effort to promote and preserve affordable, accessible housing in our community. There are a lot of factors that influence medication adherence... but there is also this practical issue that families can’t access it.” BMC's Amy Sobota, MD, MPH, spoke with #HealthCity about BMC's Liquid Hydroxyurea Delivery Program, which was created to centralize the formulation and delivery of liquid hydroxyurea to families without cost. At BMC Health System, providing expert and equitable care means going beyond what has been traditionally considered medicine. To more holistically support our patients and communities, BMC Health System developed Clean Power Prescription, a first-in-the-nation pilot program that allows BMC providers to write patients a prescription for a reduced utility bill. Today, the program is helping eligible patients power essential medical devices, run appliances such as refrigerators, and keep their homes warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Each day, case managers, housing support specialists, and social workers like Louvelin Vasquez are beside our patients in their housing journeys. “Housing services are important to our patients because a safe place to live impacts medical health, emotional well-being, and financial security.
