“We lived in a one-bedroom apartment in Mililani when I was cast. I slept in the bedroom, my mom slept on the couch. She gave me everything. I bought my mommy a house. She’s happily retired.” 'Moana' was a box office giant at the time of release, with a $687 million worldwide gross. Much of its subsequent success came thanks to video-on-demand platforms and Disney+, where it was the most streamed movie in 2023. The actress and singer returned as Moana in the Disney sequel this year — which became the highest global box office debut for an animated movie. (via People, Forbes)

🗓️ On this day in 2017: Elon Musk tweets a thread about traffic "driving him nuts" and digging a tunnel — which would go on to become The Boring Company — last valued at $7 billion. According to a recent report by The Information, The Boring Company now has an implied valuation of $7 billion following a 2023 sale of shares by employees and investors. The shares were sold at 22% higher than the company’s valuation during the previous year’s funding round. Initially launched as a subsidiary of SpaceX in 2017, The Boring Company became an independent corporation in 2018. TBC has completed one public tunneling project and several test tunnels. In 2018, the company built a test tunnel in Los Angeles County, California. By 2021, TBC finished the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) Loop, a three-station transportation system with 1.7 miles (2.7 km) of tunnels. As of April 2024, an extension to Resorts World Las Vegas is operational, with tunnels to Encore and Westgate resorts nearing completion. The system aims to expand to 68 miles (109 km) of tunnels across Las Vegas. While TBC has announced multiple projects in various U.S. cities, many have been canceled or stalled due to inactivity.
