It was a massive honour and great pleasure to be invited to speak at the Urban Metaverse & Smart Cities event in Tenerife - This was an exclusive gathering of handpicked experts from around the world,, each a leader in their field, collaborating to reshape the future of urban life. With carefully curated talks and panel discussions on Digital Twins, AI, and the Metaverse, each of these visionaries explored how cities can become more sustainable, more responsive, and more citizen-focused through the application of these emerging technologies. With the likes of NVIDIA, Esri and of course the visionary organisers BizzTech themselves present, this was a uniquely high powered event which resulted in some game changing strategies and collaborations being formed. But perhaps even more important were the personal and professional relationships that were formed at this event - because the attendees were so carefully picked we each got a chance to really get to know each other over the course of the event (rather than the overwhelming numbers of many other conferences which can leave you with hundreds of business cards and no idea who or what any of them connect to!) This event, by comparison, created a strong team of likeminded experts with a collective mission and the capaiblities and connections to achieve it. It also created many strong and, I suspect, enduring friendships. 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘜𝘳𝘣𝘢𝘯 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐞. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭? ◽ How do perception and experiences in purely #virtual worlds differ from those in #real environments? ◽ Why do we actually distinguish between real and unreal here? ◽ Isn't the #time we spend in these worlds our lifetime, aren't the social #encounters that are possible there real, and, above all, aren't the #memories we make in them real memories? First of all, we have to build and design these virtual worlds and make them accessible. But of course the question also arises as to how the real and virtual worlds can merge more and more meaningfully and how the transition between these worlds or their overlapping can be designed. In Tenerife, at the 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 & 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭, many ideas, specific projects and conceptual approaches were presented and discussed among a community of international experts who share an interest in #Metaverse and #XR technology use. Many developments are still uncertain, but at the same time, this situation also offers us creative space to design future worlds and to leverage potential for all industries. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥.
