  • Our members aren't able to go often, and some have never been, on vacation. Fourteen Mountain View members recently enjoyed a long weekend vacation to Eureka Springs and Branson. They had a big cabin in the woods and drank their morning coffee watching a spectacular sunrise. They had the best time ghost hunting at the Crescent Hotel, going to Silver Dollar City and the Dixie Stampede, sifting through dirt for treasures at the local gem mine, playing games, and relaxing away from the program center for a few days. We honestly have the most amazing staff that is willing to give up their personal weekends to do special trips like this with our members. It is a therapeutic experience for them that they will remember and talk about for a long while! #birchtreeinthecommunity

  • Art Director Kristin Calderhead recently had the opportunity to represent Birch Tree Communities in New York City at the opening of a new exhibit for an organization that provides similar services for adults living with serious mental illness. She took three paintings from our members that will be included in the 'Inside My Mind' Exhibit running at the NYC Fountain House Gallery and Studio September 12 - October 30. Kristin sincerely enjoyed meeting the members and staff at Fountain House and learning more about their program. Thank you to Fountain House for their hospitality and including our members in their exhibit! Fountain House is a behavioral health program and community fighting to improve health, increase opportunity, and end social and economic isolation for people most impacted by mental illness. Fountain House Gallery and Studio supports the careers and creative visions of contemporary artists living with mental illness.

  • Thank you to Kelsey Fortune, Benton High School art teacher, for her recent donation to the expressive arts program! Ms. Fortune provided several boxes full of items for a slow stitching project. Slow stitching can be used a group project to provide a sense of community and connection among the participants. It can also be a form of meditation and a way to process emotions. Our members are looking forward to learning this new skill!
