Meet Karissa Cottier, PhD, Senior Scientist in Baltimore Karissa has been a Senior Scientist at BioIVT’s Baltimore office for nearly six years. Her passion for conducting research at a higher level began during her undergraduate studies, where she joined a lab investigating the benefits of natural product extracts for rheumatoid arthritis. This in vitro experience contrasted with her in vivo Ph.D. research and shaped her career path. At BioIVT, Karissa works within the #ADME-Tox business unit, focusing on developing new products and innovative assays that leverage our tools to support scientific discovery. Her team specializes in liver models, particularly those using primary #hepatocytes, contributing to advancements in #drugmetabolism and #toxicology research. Karissa’s advice to her younger self: "Have an idea of what you want your career to look like, but don’t immediately dismiss opportunities that don’t perfectly align with your plans." Did you know that we’ve expanded our biospecimen data by screening our collection for #mutations using next-gen #sequencing (NGS)? At the forefront of innovation, we’re proud to support biotech and pharma research with access to 8,000+ specimens with NGS data and the capacity to screen 600+ #biospecimens per month. Depending on research goals, we apply targeted techniques to deliver the insights needed. Dr. Cathie Miller, Senior Director of Product Marketing explained, “qRT-PCR is effective for determining the status of various somatic mutations in human tissue samples. Sanger/Pyrosequencing provides single nucleotide variations within DNA or RNA or can be used for sequencing gene sections (exons). NGS is effective for determining the presence of SNV, CNV or fusions across multiple genes. Immunohistochemistry provides useful information in determining protein overexpression. Our specimens may have ER/PR/HER2, EGFR, KRAS, BRAF, MSI, NGS Tumor Panels, Fusions, CNVs, HLA and more data, and we offer custom biomarker analysis on specific cohorts with the ability to screen as a custom project.” Learn more: https://hubs.ly/Q02_CqrH0 Browse a tailored inventory of our specimens: https://hubs.ly/Q02_Ck_b0 Or custom screen for mutations: https://hubs.ly/Q02_Cl110 #Diagnostics #Biomarkers #Bioinformatics #PrecisionMedicine

#CellandGeneTherapy developers can significantly streamline the transition from preclinical to clinical development and commercialization by integrating GMP-compliant #humanABserum early in their process development. This serum offers a robust and consistent growth environment for various cell types, promoting enhanced proliferation and reducing the risk of batch-to-batch variability. By incorporating GMP-compliant human ab serum from the outset, developers can establish a more predictable and scalable manufacturing process, ultimately accelerating the path to clinical trials and market approval. Immune Cells Additionally, the use of GMP-compliant human ab serum can mitigate potential regulatory hurdles associated with the use of animal-derived components, streamlining the approval process and reducing development timelines. Did you know that over half of people with HIV (PWH), even those on antiretroviral therapy (ART), experience neurological issues like memory and thinking difficulties? Recent research shows that elevated Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) levels in the blood of PWH may play a critical role. These levels are linked to cognitive decline, even when the virus is undetectable in the bloodstream. The study reveals that ATP may enable HIV-infected immune cells to cross the blood-brain barrier through specific pathways involving JAM-A and LFA-1 proteins. By targeting these pathways, scientists hope to prevent or reduce brain damage caused by HIV in those on ART. This could be a significant step toward improving the quality of life for people living with HIV.
