From April 2024, UK businesses can access enhanced R&D tax relief through the merged RDEC and new ERIS schemes. With generous deductions and credits for R&D-intensive projects, the schemes offer tailored support to fuel innovation and drive growth. Research and Development (R&D) tax reliefs are designed to support UK companies engaged in innovative science and technology projects. As of April 2024, the R&D Expenditure Credit (RDEC) and the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Scheme were merged. The new R&D expenditure credit (RDEC) and enhanced R&D intensive support (ERIS) came into effect for accounting periods beginning on or after 1 April 2024. The Life Sciences Innovative Manufacturing Fund (LSIMF) is now open for applications! Deadline: 31st March 2025. UK registered businesses can apply for funding for life science manufacturing capital investment projects which help increase UK health resilience. Last week, I attended Cancer Tech Accelerator Demo Day 2024 and was impressed by the quality of the pitches! Some standout innovations to watch: Siftr Bio: Novel linkers for antibody-drug conjugates to boost targeted therapy precision. Excellio : Engineering exosome systems for targeted drug delivery. Nimble Genomics (http://www.nimble.bio/): Liquid biopsy using ctDNA for diagnosing and tracking brain cancers. Tile (https://www.tile.health): AI foundation model for interpreting pathology slides. SynPixels: AI for synthetic CT images, enabling adaptive radiation radiotherapy. It was also a pleasure connecting with people from Cancer Research UK (CRUK), HGF Limited, Bidshaper and The Brain Tumour Charity; and individuals working in cancer tech. As a science consultant with Team Consulting working in technology development for cancer diagnosis and therapy, I share these teams' passion and urgency for innovation.
