About us

As a not-for-profit community health system, Benefis is driven to provide the highest level of care. We serve nearly 230,000 residents across a 15-county region that is bigger than Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont combined. Benefis is the largest non-governmental employer in the Great Falls area, with more than 3,000 employees. Benefis Hospitals has more than 530 beds at its two campuses (that includes 146 beds in long-term care and 20 beds at Peace Hospice of Montana) and partners with over 250 area physicians. More than 100 physicians and advanced practice professionals are employed with Benefis Medical Group. Our hospital provides a wide range of programs and services to help you live the best life possible. We’re here to help you “Live well.” Benefis Health System came about when two Christian-based hospitals became one. Our founders' believed in providing good care to all in need, and trusted that this would be accomplished. The Benefis name was derived using Latin root words: "Bene-" meaning good, and "fis-" for faith and trust. It’s these same root words that make up such terms as ‘beneficial’ and ‘confidence’. Benefis has been a trusted provider of care for more than 100 years. And our name speaks to our commitment: good care one can put faith in. Benefis is consistently ranked among America’s top hospitals by the nation’s leading healthcare ratings organizations, including being rated as one of the 150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare!

      +1
  • Across Benefis Health System, our employees perform daily acts of compassion, skill, and even heroism. Then once a year, they dig deep for Benefis Foundation and community causes during Impact, our employee giving campaign. We are so delighted to announce that this year, 1,302 employees donated $492,069 to Benefis Foundation, United Way, and other local nonprofits! Through their generosity, employees are helping families with sick children, extending a lifeline to co-workers in crisis, funding scholarships to make dreams come true, and much more. This is an employee-led effort, and we’re so grateful to our employee donors and those who rallied their teammates! #NationalPhilanthropyDay

  • Dr. Bradford Bergman of Benefis Internal Medicine recently received the 2024 Dr. J.W. Bloemendaal Outstanding Physician Award. This award honors a physician who best exemplifies the character and the manner in which Dr. Bloemendaal, a longtime orthopedic surgeon in the Great Falls community, practiced for more than 50 years. Dr. Greg Tierney, executive vice president of system clinical operations, and Dr. Bridget Brennan, system chief medical officer presented the award to Dr. Bergman. “Thank you for the many years of compassionate, attentive, and excellent care of your patients,” said Dr. Brennan. “We are very grateful you have chosen Great Falls and Benefis as your home.” Dr. Bergman was born in Montana and grew up in Great Falls. He joined the Benefis Medical Group in 2010. “I can’t so what I do without an enormous amount of support,” Dr. Berman said when accepting the award. “I’ve been very grateful that over the years I have been able to work in way where I can focus on patient care.” Dr. Bergman went on to thank his wife, two daughters, and other members of his family. He also recognized his colleagues in Internal Medicine and thanked the support staff in his clinic. Dr. Bergman also praised his nurse and scheduler, thanking them for being “the face of his practice” and a presence his patents appreciate every day. “I’m inspired to keep working,” he told the crowd. “I’m truly honored, and I will remember this as a high point in my career.” Congratulations to Dr. Bergman, and we thank him for his years of service at Benefis!
