BE SEEN reposted this
“I have a lot to live for.” Yes. YES. YES!!!🙌🏽 🎤 And I imagine you do too. Right?! I’m curious to know the first thing that pops into your mind when you pause to let this soak in deeply. For me—it’s all about people. Ironic as a Chief People Officer and Womens Wellbeing Advocate. So in the hopes of reaching even just one person who needs to hear this message today, this is for you. I can hear you searching, seeking and questioning “why” and “masking “what is it all for” during these difficult days. As James Van Der Beek recently acknowledges, “I have a lot to live for” as cancer takes people like us right to the edge contemplating our “why” in life. Face to face with the undeniable truth of what matters most to us in our lives. One in five people under the age of 55 are meeting their colorectal cancer today. When life turns upside down: From carpools to chemo. And so the questions will start to spark in their lives like they did in mine. And my friends Gina, David and Trey. Like they are for James. And Princess Kate. 💫To evaluate how we truly spend our time. 💫To consider what is worth our joy and frustration. 💫To contemplate our legacy and how we are remembered, even while we’re still living strong. 💫To take pictures with our family in the midst of our illness that threatens our very existence. 💫To forge unique moments together. 💫To lock those treasured moments together like a mosquito preserved in amber for centuries. For me, my family took pictures on December 23, 2021 for that very reason. I question if James felt the same in this photo with his family behind him shared by PEOPLE Magazine | PEOPLE.com. Facing mortality, like the wreckage of a racing wildfire, has the ability to leave seeds that sprout regrowth far beyond what lived before. For Josh Peters and our three boys, the spark has lit a fire in us that we want to sweep far and wide — like music dancing through the trees creating BE SEEN. Our calling to bring goodness from our own challenges to alter the course of life for another human being. A parent. A friend. A child. A sibling. Another. And another. And together this swarm of worker bees will take over to change the course of the colorectal cancer beast. Together we can slay this giant monster and burn it to the ground once and for all. For everyone. Because it’s so clear to us as we walk through the ash: no one should be losing life from colorectal cancer. As you journal, walk and meditate: 🪞What are you living for today? 🪞What brings you the greatest joy and peace? 🪞What do you need to burn down to rise up? 🪞What are you living for today? 🪞What is your answer when you say “I’ve got a lot to live for…” Pick up that mic and invite the conversation with yourself. We have some good stuff coming, honey. It’s time to BE SEEN.
