About us

Are you a C-suite executive who wants to accelerate performance for you or your team? With 20+ years of experience working with executives in Global Fortune 50 companies, I know what it takes to run an effective, high-performance team and to succeed in a high-stakes, exciting career. I learned early on that the key to career and team success requires a proactive and strategic approach to cultivating trust and achieving goals. In fact, I wrote a book on getting promoted and the qualities you need to achieve your career goals and increase personal satisfaction. My clients include FedEx, Adobe, Gap and Bank of the West. Forbes recognized me as one of the top coaches for legal and compliance professionals, and called my Promotability Index® assessment “a SWOT analysis for your career.” I’m also a contributor to Harvard Business Review and Fast Company. Over the years, I’ve helped hundreds of companies and professionals be more effective leaders, managers and colleagues, leading to higher growth and profits, employee retention, and reduction of unnecessary stress and politics. I have helped multiple executives get promoted, amplify their strengths and remove bad habits, reduce stress and increase personal and professional satisfaction. My experience has shown me that the essence of good coaching and leadership consulting is clearly communicating your value, putting that value in front of your prospective clients, and then demonstrating exactly how you can help them get the outcomes they want. The primary service I offer is an intensive executive team coaching and team building program, Team Alignment Transformation. This doesn’t just measure how your current team is performing, but gets you into action, providing a shared language and opportunity to identify gaps and goals, establish accountability, and follow-up measurement, so that you grow more profitably as a company. (2/3) Thursday afternoon I presented at the Global Peter Drucker Forum addressing a fundamental question: What Does 'Justice' Really Require of a Workplace? Alongside distinguished thought leaders, we explored several critical dimensions: Job Security and Trust: Sarah Green Carmichael of Bloomberg Opinion highlighted how mass layoffs (affecting 58% of F100 companies last year) erode trust and morale, particularly among GenZ talent. Cultivating Belonging: Kim Dabbs, Global VP of Impact at Steelcase and author of "You Belong Here," demonstrated how psychological safety drives innovation through diverse perspectives and productive discourse. Reimagining Workspaces: Philip Tidd, Managing Director at Gensler, shared insights on designing offices that answer the "Why come in?" question through spaces enabling focus, collaboration, and serendipitous connections. Pay Equity - The Foundation of Trust: My focus centered on pay equity as the cornerstone of workplace justice. While other aspects matter deeply, fair compensation is fundamental - it's the primary reason we work. Without equal pay, other workplace initiatives ring hollow. The data remains stark: women and people of color continue to face substantial pay gaps, with Black and Latina women potentially losing $1+ million in earnings over a 40-year career. Today, International Equal Pay Day, serves as a reminder of this persistent challenge. The solution is straightforward: conduct pay equity audits (PEAs). Yet when I published my research, only 22% of major U.S. public companies reported doing so between 2016-2020. Organizations serious about justice must start here. [Link to article below] Grateful to Ania Wieckowski Masinter of Harvard Business Review for masterfully moderating our discussion, and to Richard Straub and Julia Kirby for the invitation to present at the magnificent HOFBURG Vienna. The "la maison" of Drucker-inspired thinking proved to be an ideal setting for these crucial conversations. #DruckerForum #EqualPay #PayEquity #WorkplaceJustice #Leadership

(1/3) Some takeaways from Day #1 of the Global Peter Drucker Forum in Vienna on Thursday. The focus is “Next Management” — a five-year initiative acknowledging Drucker’s perception in the 1960s that the new phenomenon of knowledge work requires a high degree of autonomy for the knowledge worker as a first step of inverting the conventional top down hierarchy. - #GPDF Founder Richard Straub Opening session with Gianpiero Petriglieri, Amy Edmondson, Mary Meaney, Pierre Le Manh, Alex Adamopoulos, Liz Cane, Liesje Meijknecht: “People live here” and the concept of La Maison. As leaders, what kind of environment are we creating? - GP “Good management is about us. How will we produce it together.” - AE Since Covid, we have had “the constant presence of absence.” We need to feel we matter. - GP We know ties grow narrower in absence (of physically being together).” - AE Humanity is an achievement. When we delegate to AI, we become less skilled and power is concentrated. Friction creates great ideas and leads to democracy. - GP Thoughtful discussion of generative AI, and the management mind shift needed, between Brian Solis and Stephan Balzer: In Silicon Valley, we often call it innovation, but it’s usually iteration. We automate processes. With AI true business transformation is possible. Drucker advised for us to cultivate our self-awareness so that we do not become “trapped in our assumptions.” Self-awareness and humility are key leadership skills to thrive in the age of AI. Create a receivers’ mind. Success is the poorest teacher of innovation. We do not need to lose fear to innovate. Ego is the enemy. There is a better future for everyone. And a debate regarding decision-making and how we get better at making good choices, featuring Peter G. Kirchschlaeger, Mathis Bitton and Liesje Meijknecht l: At what point with AI will we interrupt and debate the data-based prediction? This is where it will be important to step in, and not delegate — we need to retain our humanity. What are your thoughts on what is currently important in management and working culture? #PeterDrucker #DruckerForum #leadership #humanresources #AI #knowledgeWork

Love being back at University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business on a gorgeous autumn day. Guest lectured in two classes today on business ethics in accounting, using the Theranos case study. Thoughtful questions from students about all kinds of naturally occurring career hairballs and how to navigate tricky ethical dilemmas in the workplace. #GenZ cares about healthy workplace culture. I'm looking forward to speaking with brilliant colleagues and thought leaders at the Global Peter Drucker Forum at the HOFBURG Vienna November 13-15, focusing on "The Next Knowledge Work: Managing for New Levels of Value Creation and Innovation." I'll be speaking on a critical topic: What Does “Justice” Really Require of a Workplace? Moderated by Ania Wieckowski Masinter, colleagues Sarah Green Carmichael, Philip Tidd, Kim Dabbs and I will discuss:   ➡️ What does justice really require of a workplace?  ➡️ What do (or don’t) organizations owe their employees and other stakeholders? The conference will focus on a full-scale reassessment of how leaders understand their role in organizations, and what they must do to fulfill it. ➡️ Please join us! Secure your seat here: https://lnkd.in/gaDthnMX I'm looking forward to learning from colleagues on a range of hot topics, such as Amy Edmondson on ideas for advancing knowledge work, Valla Vakili on innovation, Santiago Iniguez on whether AI will change the way we think, Julia Kirby on managerial insights from the social sciences, Matthias Berninger on how geopolitical turmoil will hit home, Dan Pontefract on the remote/hybrid debate and how work best gets done, Asheesh Advani on leading autonomous/contract knowledge workers, and dozens of other brilliant thought leaders. 🌟 Many thanks to Richard Straub and Julia Kirby for inviting me to speak. #druckerforum #gpdf #peterdrucker #vienna #nextmanagement #innovation #valuecreation #knowledgework #coaching #ethics #CultureMatters

Spent a beautiful autumn day in Sonoma with the NACD Northern California Chapter. This year, the Fall Harvest Lunch focus was on “Embracing disruptive trends in sustainability in 2025.” Insightful panel expertly moderated by Catherine Zinn of Baker Botts, featuring Anna Walker, VP Public Affairs at Levi Strauss & Co.; Lisa Grow, president and CEO at Idaho Power and IDACORP; Samantha Crispin, partner at Baker Botts; and Karen C. Francis, CEO of Limerick Lane Cellars and who serves on several boards, including chair at Polestar. Takeaways for boards re: sustainability: - What is our shareholder base? Who is on the cap table and what are their investing perspectives? (e.g. long or short term) - The demand for AI is driving gas needs, and there is pressure on electricity. The impact is going to be significant. - The energy capacity that may exist is probably gone. If your strategic plan is not linked with your utility, it will not work. - Define sustainability in a way that you can achieve it, that makes sense. Motivating employees is the best entry point. Many thanks to Baker Botts and the team at Limerick Lane Cellars for a beautiful event. #corporateboards #Governance #Sustainability #AI #energy #utilities

🇧🇹 I'm humbled and energized to share an extraordinary opportunity that has come my way. As part of an executive coaching cohort led by Keith Ferrazzi, I have the privilege of coaching the Director of Environment and Climate Change and his team in Bhutan's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. This initiative, sponsored by His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, aims to support Bhutan's pioneering efforts in sustainable living and citizen well-being. As the world grapples with environmental challenges, Bhutan stands out as a beacon of hope and innovation. Some remarkable aspects of Bhutan that make this experience truly special: 1. Gross National Happiness: Bhutan prioritizes GNH over GDP, focusing on balancing material and spiritual development. 2. Carbon Negative: One of the few countries absorbing more CO2 than it produces. 3. Last Himalayan Buddhist Kingdom: Preserving unique cultural and religious traditions. 4. "High Value, Low Impact" Tourism: Protecting culture and environment while benefiting from tourism. 5. National Dress Code: Preserving cultural identity through traditional attire. Often called the "Last Shangri-La," Bhutan's commitment to preserving its culture and environment while advancing on the global stage is truly inspirational. I'm grateful for this opportunity to learn from and contribute to Bhutan's visionary approach to national development. It's a reminder of the positive impact we can have when we align our efforts with values that prioritize both people and planet. For more insights into Bhutan, I highly recommend watching this TED talk by Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay: [Bhutan TED Talk](https://lnkd.in/gy_ATmws) #SustainableDevelopment #GrossNationalHappiness #Bhutan #ExecutiveCoaching #GlobalLeadership

“Leadership is autobiographical. If I don’t know who you are as a person, I don’t know who you are as a leader.” -Noel Tichy Thank you to the 100+ colleagues who joined Melanie Sponholz and me in Dallas yesterday for a leadership workshop to identify your individual values, unique attributes and skills to: — create a personal statement to guide daily actions in line with your purpose and use as a career yardstick — reflect on how we are living our values, and how to navigate when you’re in a work or personal situation that is not aligned — noticing when our values are in conflict, which may require tough choices, accepting this is part of life, and being kind to yourself — being aware of the “shoulds” in your life, when it’s not serving you and how to let go — increasing your self-awareness, the key to confidence, growth, centeredness - and the first of the 5 key elements that get you noticed and promoted as a leader Thank you for joining us on the journey. Let us know what was helpful. It’s the first time I’ve facilitated and coached this with such a large group and on limited time. Many thanks to Adam Turteltaub CCEP, CHC, Katie Burk and the conference chairs for taking a bet on a core leadership session for our fave people 🙏🏻🙌🏻 For more insights, take my career self-assessment here: https://lnkd.in/gfZtDMEV And reach out if you’d like to discuss executive coaching and accelerating your career. ⭐️ Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) #SCCEcei #leadership #selfawareness #compliance #careers #Promotability
