This past week, my mother posted a photo that took me back in time. The image, taken at the National Apartment Association (NAA) conference in 1982, featured her alongside some of the multifamily industry’s most influential figures of the era. It’s a snapshot of history, one that brings back fond memories of my family’s deep connection to this incredible industry—a connection that began back in 1981. For my family, the multifamily industry is more than just a career; it’s a legacy. It all started with my mother, who embraced this profession with the passion and dedication that defined her career. Her work in multifamily didn’t just shape her professional life—it became a cornerstone for our entire family. Soon after, my stepfather also joined the industry, creating a shared commitment to a field that was as challenging as it was rewarding. My brother and I followed in their footsteps, each of us carving out our own unique roles within multifamily. While our paths may have differed, the core values instilled by our family’s early experiences in this industry—hard work, innovation, and service—have remained constant. I am filled with gratitude for everything the multifamily industry has brought to our family. It’s given us careers we’re proud of, lifelong friendships, and countless opportunities to grow and contribute. It has been a source of stability and pride. This industry isn’t just about buildings, leases, or even bottom lines—it’s about people. It’s about the communities we serve, the residents we house, and the colleagues who inspire us. It’s an industry where collaboration and innovation drive not only success but also meaningful impact on people’s lives. As I reflect on our journey that began in 1981, I’m reminded of how fortunate we are to be part of this incredible community. I want to thank the multifamily industry for all it has provided us over the years. To my family, my colleagues, and the countless mentors and peers I’ve had the privilege to know—thank you for your support and friendship. Today, as I continue to contribute to this field, I carry with me a deep appreciation for the opportunities it has afforded us. To be part of an industry that has shaped my life in so many ways is an honor I don’t take lightly.
