Strengthening Legislative Advocacy for Disability Rights We were delighted to host an enlightening orientation on Parliamentary Functioning led by Chakshu Roy, Head of Legislative and Civic Engagement Initiatives alongside Analie Dutta Choudhury from PRS Legislative Research. The session provided critical insights into strategies for advancing legislative advocacy in the disability sector, equipping the NCPEDP team with the knowledge to better navigate and influence policymaking. Our discussion was further enriched by the participation of distinguished professionals: Srijan Thakur, LAMP Fellow Tanush Handa, Manager - Public Policy at Ardent Co. Pragya Srivastava, former LAMP Fellow and current Political Advisor at the British High Commission This session fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas on how to enhance our advocacy efforts and drive meaningful change for persons with disabilities within legislative frameworks. Our second Quality Anchoring Workshop was hosted recently for the new training partner TimesPro that brought together Skillserv-CPBFI trainers, master trainers and operations staff from various locations across India. Key objectives of the workshop were to Calibration of #Skillserv Trainer Quality parameters, Insights on assessment parameters, feedback score mechanism and trainer’s role in Skillserv-CPBFI training. A fireside chat highlighted key aspects such as the pedagogy of CPBFI 3.0, strategies to help learners grasp BFSI content, and addressing on-ground challenges to enhance learning. India is grappling with a severe shortage of resource teachers to support students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). Current statistics reveal an alarming ratio of 1 teacher for every 65 children with disabilities, far from the requirements set by the recent amendment to the Right to Education Act. The Act mandates- 1 special educator for every 10 children with disabilities in classes I to V and 1 for every 15 children in classes VI to VIII. This shortfall significantly hampers the inclusion of children with disabilities into the mainstream educational ecosystem, limiting their potential to thrive academically and socially. To address this pressing need, Dr. Anjali Morris Foundation has launched an 8-month structured program fellowship program for psychology students that has been designed to create skilled special educators equipped to support SLD students effectively. Partnering with colleges to recruit aspiring psychology students through a transparent application and selection process. A select number of fellows will have the opportunity to join AMF, ensuring sustained efforts in this critical area. Bajaj Finserv is supporting 16 individuals in the cohort.
