Great things happen when industry experts come together to collaborate. That was the case last week at the Society of Petroleum Engineers International Permian Basin Energy Conference. The session was moderated by B3's Brian Maxson and Hannah Chittenden of Diamondback Energy. Panelists included Jeffrey Thompson from Oxy USA, Cody Comiskey from Chevron, Annan Pascoe, PE from Deep Blue, Katie Smye from the Bureau of Economic Geology at the The University of Texas at Austin, Ted Wooten from the Railroad Commission of Texas. “Researchers have observed increases in pore pressures, by up to 1,000 psi in shallow injection strata in the Delaware Basin”, said Katie Smye. “We need more data,” said Cody Comiskey, an earth science advisor within Chevron's Mid-Con business unit’s applied reservoir management team. Policy and regulatory changes and operational changes will also be needed to address seismicity issues. “We need to think of the scale of the solution. It’s an all-of-the-above approach. Some options will be better than others, but we need to look at all options,” Comiskey said. “I do believe we can solve the seismicity issue with collaboration,” stated Jeffrey Thompson. With water volumes in the Permian projected to increase by 30% by 2028, staying ahead of rising pressures is critical. Surging formation pressures risk well failures, operational bottlenecks, and infrastructure damage. With dwindling saltwater disposal (SWD) capacity in regions like the Permian Basin, operators must proactively monitor and manage subsurface pressure to prevent costly setbacks. We’ve developed SIP (Subsurface Interval Pressure) to give you the tools to predict and prevent potential drilling failures. Powered by proprietary data and advanced machine learning methods, SIP estimates formation pressures in injection-receiving formations and allows you to optimize water management strategies with unparalleled speed and accuracy. Read more about how powerful SIP can be for your operations in our newest blog post. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gGxMsZTw #b3insight #oilandgas #seismicity #basinpressure #pressuremanagement #technology #dataplatform #watermanagement

Imagine accessing intelligent data that provides updated subsurface pressures across the entire Permian Basin. B3 is proud to announce the launch of SIP, Subsurface Interval Pressure. With SIP you can be the MVP by mitigating risks, planning, optimizing water injection, and avoiding costly downtime. Some of the world’s biggest oil and gas companies trust SIP to improve operational efficiency. Join those industry leaders and get the data you need. To illustrate the power of SIP, we conducted a study utilizing B3’s proprietary data. As shallow formations in the Permian Basin fill up and pressurize, the ability to dispose of produced water and drill production wells through pressurized zones becomes more challenging. This comprehensive study explores these changes in pressure and their implications, offering critical data for the industry. Download the exclusive Permian Basin Study and see how SIP can help you make better decisions. https://lnkd.in/gMUM5Kty #b3insight #seismicity #oilandgas #data #insights #subsurface #watermanagement

Roughly three quarters of all water produced in the Permian Basin is disposed of via UIC Class II injection wells. A recent study by SMU highlights the possibility of groundwater contamination in West Texas due to highly pressurized injection intervals affecting some historical production wells. Alternative disposal methods for millions of barrels of produced water are critical to help mitigate this issue. This is the first study to draw specific links between wastewater injection and recent environmental issues in the Permian Basin. "This is reaching a critical point in the Permian Basin. The scale of injection needs is increasing. About 15 million barrels, or 630 million gallons, of produced water are injected for disposal in the Permian Basin every day." - Katie Smye, Geologist, Center for Injection and Seismicity Research at the University of Texas at Austin Read more about the study and the need for smart water management strategies here: https://lnkd.in/g4WDs4wg #WaterManagement #Data #OilAndGas #B3Insight #Sustainability #TechInnovation #EnvironmentalTech #Climatetech #Environment #OilAndGas #ClimateChange #Compliance #OilFieldH2O #WaterManagement #DataIntegration #OperationalExcellence #Innovation
