🚨 My Experience with Bolt.new by stackblitz: A Tool for Non-Coders, but at What Cost? 🚨 As a non-coder, I was excited to try out Bolt.new—a platform aimed at helping people like me create and launch applications without needing to code. With Anthropic’s AI tool powering the backend, the promise of turning complex development into an accessible, user-friendly process was incredibly appealing! But the reality? Frustrating, time-consuming, and costly. 🥵 The Challenges I Faced: • Project Disappearing on Logout 📁: Every time I logged out, my project would go missing, forcing me to load a version from my chrome browser history. This issue alone was a major setback and raised questions about data security and usability. • Endless Debugging that Eats Up Tokens 🪙: Bolt.new tries to fix its own bugs and edge cases, but this “feature” ended up draining my tokens. Instead of resolving issues, the platform would loop through debugging attempts, burning up my credits without real progress. Each time the platform tried to fix itself, I watched my token balance drop. • $80 Spent on an Incomplete, Buggy App 💸: In total, I spent around $80 worth of tokens only to end up with an app that was incomplete and riddled with bugs. For a platform aimed at non-coders, the lack of stability and reliability was disheartening—and costly. My Key Takeaways: • Not Ready for Non-Coders 🤔: While Bolt.new is marketed as a tool for beginners, it seems far from user-friendly especially when trying to build a app that’s not very basic, one requiring sign up and sign and integrations with firebase. The constant technical issues, combined with a lack of clear guidance, made me feel more like a coder than a user. • Unexpected Costs 💵: I had hoped this would be a cost-effective way to build a project, but the token system quickly became a financial drain. Instead of a smooth experience, it was a costly learning curve with minimal return. • Potential Needs Better Execution 🛠️: The concept behind Bolt.new is innovative, but there’s a lot of work needed to make it functional for the target audience. Non-coders don’t expect to navigate dependencies, resolve imports, or worry about losing entire projects upon logout. For now, I’m left with an expensive lesson and an incomplete app. I’ve provided feedback on their GitHub page . Hopefully it’s seen and addressed . I’d love to get a free reload of all those tokens used up . In the end, I appreciate what Bolt.new is trying to achieve, but I hope they address these major usability and cost issues.
