So happy that the HEU, Centre for Health Economics, The University of the West Indies afforded us (IS4H Bahamas) the opportunity to be featured in their publication - HEALTH An Imperative for Advancing Health and Development. The HEU, Centre for Health Economics, The University of the West Indies’ (UWI-HEU) mission is to ‘make a difference’ in the health and human development of the people of the Caribbean region. The HEU’s innovativeness in filling the need for evidenced-based research and technical support in the region, as well as its responsiveness to new challenges have positively influenced the progress of countries towards universal health coverage, social well-being, fiscal improvements, among others, through policy formulation and implementation. The Commonwealth of The Bahamas is transforming public health management through the strategic implementation of digital technologies. The Ministry of Health and Wellness has been leveraging the Information Systems for Health (IS4H) framework to ensure a seamless, efficient, and integrated health information ecosystem. This ecosystem will revolutionize health information systems (HIS) through enhanced healthcare delivery, governance, and data management. As Dr. Althea La Foucade noted "Health Information Systems (HIS) provide the foundation for decision-making. The World Health Organization (WHO) describes HIS as a mechanism for the generation of information to enable decision-makers at all levels of the health system to identify problems and needs, make evidence-based decisions on health policy, and optimally allocate scarce resources. HIS has the potential of generating, analysing and disseminating timely and reliable data across national health systems for clinical, management, and policy decision-making."
