Meet Delaney, an incoming Physical Therapist at Atrium Health. Delaney was inspired by her mother's job as a Physical Therapist to pursue a career in health care. “Growing up, I always loved seeing and hearing how much what she did could help people live a better life,” she reflects. This set the stage for Delaney’s journey into the field, guided by a strong desire to make a positive impact on others. Delaney began her career at Atrium Health, drawn to its mission and supportive teammate environment. “I really enjoyed the various staff members I interviewed with,” she shares. As she begins her new role, Delaney is excited to develop her own style of physical therapy and help those going through difficult times. She is deeply passionate about caring others, a value rooted in her college’s motto, “cura personalis,” meaning “care for the whole person.” She believes that in health care, it’s easy to focus narrowly on a specific aspect of a patient’s recovery, but she aims to consider the larger picture and address factors that others might overlook. Looking ahead, Delaney has big goals for her future in health care. She hopes to become a Clinical Instructor one day, inspired by the amazing mentors who guided her during her education. “I had wonderful CI’s throughout my education and would love to help students in the same way,” she says. When she’s not working, Delaney enjoys reading and spending time with her dog, Bevy, which helps her maintain a healthy work-life balance. Her advice to new graduates entering health care is simple; “Always advocate for yourself and seek opportunities to learn from other specialties.” Delaney is committed to making her own mark in the world of physical therapy. We are excited to see all that Delaney will accomplish in her first year at Atrium Health and beyond! Nurse Kieva Skinner is helping others bend over backwards for their health. 🧘 Kieva is a veteran nurse with 14 years of experience and works in Atrium Health Kannapolis’ emergency department Her experience within the field helped her recognize the stress and fatigue her coworkers faced due to the high demands of working in the ED. As a certified yoga instructor, she offered a solution – free yoga classes. “Yoga helps with stress reduction and fosters nurses to become self-aware, more present of their thoughts and emotions,” Kieva explains. “This mindfulness can help reduce anxiety when dealing with intense situations.” Kieva’s yoga classes have attracted participants from various departments across Atrium Health Kannapolis, a facility of Atrium Health Cabarrus, including her son, Malcom Skinner, who also works in the emergency department as a registered nurse. She knows it may be the only opportunity many of her teammates have to participate in such a class. “I wanted to make yoga accessible regardless of finances and physical abilities to promote physical and mental wellness.” Her efforts signify the importance of Atrium Health Cabarrus’s recent Pathway to Excellence designation, recognizing health care organizations committed to establishing a healthy workplace for nurses. Thank you, Kieva, for helping us live our mission of expanding access to health care #ForAll

Here is a mission that hits the right notes 🎵 Three years ago, Kenny Kahn's life changed with a non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis. Amidst the physical and mental challenges, he found solace in his lifelong passion: music. “It was this really healthy, beautiful distraction for me. So I looked forward to it. When I was here, when I was home, music became this escape, because there’s this void in your life,” Kahn explained. Through a keyboard and guitar, Kenny found an escape and a source of comfort.

Advocate Health is taking strides toward fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for its physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) through its "Best Place to Care" initiative. "We've taken a multipronged strategy, not just focusing on resilience or mindfulness, but also addressing the workflow aspects and creating a culture where our clinicians feel supported,” explained Dr. Suzanna Fox, chief physician executive at Advocate Health. “We recognize that burnout isn't just about hours worked, but also about who you work with and whether you feel like someone has your back.” Read more on Becker's Healthcare: https://bit.ly/4eg1ZJV

This work of art has a story to tell. Dr. Claire Lanier is a resident physician at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and the artist of this piece she calls “Radiance." She used Gamma Knife, a leading-edge procedure to treat brain tumors, as her muse. Her artwork depicts a patient's face surrounded by 201 golden circles, representing the original Gamma Knife source geometry. Claire blended elements of science and nature, including cranial nerves, intracranial blood vessels and butterflies to represent transformation and strength. Radiation dose lines and curves are woven throughout the painting as well, a nod to the physics behind this miraculous technology.  As a Wake Forest University School of Medicine graduate, Claire created this artwork to celebrate 25 years of Gamma Knife at the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center. She also wanted to honor the patients and pioneers of the non-invasive radiation therapy. Learn more about Gamma Knife: https://bit.ly/4cJ3RtC
