Recently, AWG Cares provided a grant in the amount of $3,000 to Spirit Lake Protective Association (SLPA) in Spirit Lake, IA. The grant request was submitted by Dan Koolstra, AWG Nebraska Division Support Center employee. The Spirit Lake Protective Association’s motto and simplified mission statement is "Quality of Water, Quality of Life." Dan is a member of the Association and volunteers with them as time allows. Two of their main goals are water quality and conservation. This organization strives to keep the local history of the Iowa Great Lakes area intact, while being proactive to utilize conservation practices to protect the water quality. With the recent flooding this year occurring in and around Dickinson County, water quality is a huge concern. Due to the rising waters, the local sanitary departments were forced to release waste water into the local lakes, which created issues with water quality. The SLPA helps to physically and financially mitigate these issues from going from bad to worse. The SLPA works in conjunction with all local municipalities to ensure quality water in the local area. With the flooding in the area, water is a commodity that cannot be compromised for the health and safety of the area. Thank you, Dan, for donating to AWG Cares and submitting this grant request! Giving Tuesday takes place annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 and the idea behind it is simple. It’s a day that encourages people to do good. Doing good can be something as simple as holding the door open for somebody walking into the same building as you. It can also involve signing up to volunteer your time or donating money to an organization that’s important to you. Giving Tuesday can even mean using the power of your voice in your local community. This Giving Tuesday, we encourage you to consider donating to AWG Cares, the AWG employee charitable foundation. The foundation focuses its efforts on three main areas of charitable work: disaster relief, medical research, and hunger/ homeless programs. It includes two funds: a Charitable Organization Fund and an Employee Relief Fund. AWG Cares embodies our commitment to community service and philanthropy. It is an employee-driven initiative that supports charities and causes that are important to our teammates, as well as supporting our teammates directly. From local food banks and youth programs to health organizations and disaster relief efforts, AWG Cares funds projects that matter and make a lasting difference. Thank you to our teammates and other AWG Cares supporters for your dedication to making AWG a place that cares.
