AFN members recognize the urgent need to reduce the growing impact of climate change on household financial stability and racial and gender wealth equity. In 2025, AFN will launch Climate as our 8th issue area, starting with a concise, framing paper illustrating these challenges and highlighting intersectional grantmaking opportunities to advance economic security and equitable climate resilience. Additional programming will follow, connecting climate solutions across AFN’s seven other issue areas.

Climate change and extreme weather events are affecting the financial security and well-being of families, businesses, and communities nationwide. Utility costs are skyrocketing, limiting our income opportunities, and undermining our ability to protect our assets. Supported by the @Citi Foundation, Financial Health Frontiers initiative, a program of the @Financial Health Network , has recently released a new brief which explores how changes in climate and weather will affect our economic future, and emphasizes the need to strengthen family financial health as part of building climate resilience. ATTENTION TEXAS GRANTMAKERS! Join peer #grantmakers from across the state of Texas for AFN's meeting at 2025 RAISE Texas Summit, January 22, 2025. This engaging discussion will lift up innovative programmatic and policy interventions to expand quality, #affordablechildcare in our state and support the financial health of childcare providers. Recognizing that affordable childcare is critical for the financial health of working families, our workforce and economy, we will explore ideas for strategic philanthropic support across the state to continue advancing innovative solutions. There will be opportunities for grantmakers to build connections with peers from different AFN regions, and delve into ideas for how #philanthropy could take statewide or regional collective action on this topic.
