🌟 Reflecting on an Inspiring Evening at the Ascend NorCal November Event 🌟 Last Friday, the Visa headquarters buzzed with energy, innovation, and the unmistakable spirit of "Inspiring Across Generations". Hosted by Ascend NorCal, this event brought together a powerhouse of esteemed executives and leaders, each with their unique stories and wisdom to share. It was an evening of connection, where insights flowed freely across generations, bridging perspectives and fostering an exchange of ideas that reminded us of the strength in diversity—of thought, background, and experience. (And I loved reconnecting with my Ascend AEA cohorts, Jenny Cheng, Suki Toguchi, Raymond Cheung, Maggie Shortes at the event...till next time!) Hearing from industry trailblazers, I was struck by a recurring theme: great leadership is rooted in authentic connection. I was going to write a post about facilitating Ascend NorCal IAG's Conference last week. But then someone who attended my session wrote it better: "Among the many impactful sessions, one that stood out to me was Jennifer Ouyang Altman and Haris Alam’s session on feedback. It was eye-opening to explore how giving feedback can be just as stressful as receiving it—and to practice both sides with a partner was a powerful exercise. It reinforced that feedback, when approached with empathy, is not just a skill but a tool to foster trust and growth." That's a Win in my book. It can be nerve-wracking to join a new group, but I never had that feeling with Ascend. Ascend embraced me fully from day 1 and that warmth has inspired me to continue supporting this incredible organization -- the largest global network advancing Pan-Asian professionals in the workplace. Reflecting on First-Generation Resilience and Community at the Ascend NorCal x ALPFA San Francisco Networking Mixer On Thursday, we came together at Visa HQ in Foster City to celebrate the resilience, dedication, and diverse cultures that define first-generation professionals. It was a night of meaningful conversations, inspiring stories, and valuable connections.
