Advancing Pretrial Policy and Research (APPR) is a national initiative working with justice professionals and community members to improve pretrial justice systems in ways that prioritize community well-being and safety, racial justice, fairness, and the effective use of public resources. APPR’s mission is to to demonstrate equitable improvements in pretrial outcomes through high-fidelity implementation and comprehensive research on pretrial assessments, policies, and practices. APPR advances pretrial justice nationally through: • Technical assistance that is grounded in collaboration, the law, research, and a commitment to increasing equity. • Trainings offered at no cost and covering a broad range of topics addressing pretrial legal principles, research-based innovative practices, data collection and performance measurement, change management, and effective implementation. • Pretrial resources that provide practical guidance for studying, planning for, and implementing pretrial improvements. • Research to identify more effective practices and policies. • The APPR Community, an online forum that connects pretrial professionals and communities around the country to connect, ask questions, share their experiences, and seek guidance from APPR staff and each other. • The APPR Help Desk, which answers questions from individuals and connects people with pretrial experts and resources.
