𝐋𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭. From #Ekranoplans to Group C racing, this #aerodynamic superpower has created some epic machinery, revolutionising transport across air, land, and sea. #GroundEffect is a phenomenon that occurs when an aircraft or vehicle is in close proximity to the ground, leading to a significant alteration of airflow and aerodynamic forces. Historically this has been used to achieve 2 very different purposes. On the one hand, reduced drag and increased lift in aircraft, on the other increased grip / downforce in motorsport. 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭: From the 1960s, Ground Effect Aircraft (GEA) like the Soviet-era Ekranoplans (eg: KM and Lun-Class) or the Bartini Beriev VVA-14 showed us how the ground effect could enable efficient high-speed travel over water. Hovercraft such as the SR.N4 took a different approach, forefronting manoeuvrability over speed. Early jetliners and delta-winged aircraft such as #Concorde also experienced ground effect during takeoff and landing, influencing their takeoff speeds and wing designs. In motorsport, F1, Group C and IMSA embraced it with ground effect aerodynamics, improving cornering speeds without extra power. From Porsche AG's 956/962 to Ferrari's 126C2, some of the best looking race cars hail from this era. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭: Today, ground effect is critical in commercial aviation, UAVs, and military hovercraft, optimising performance and energy efficiency. After a lengthy hiatus, ground effect returned to F1 in 2022, however its applications are often niche and it is often away from the technological limelight. 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: In an era where range is one of the hottest topics in mobility, ground effect is poised to have a significant impact on tomorrow’s mobility ecosystem. It’s ability to reduce drag and increase lift holds massive potential in a world where extracting every ounce of performance and efficiency from a product is crucial. From smaller scale electric aircraft delivering cargo and people within and between cities, to next-gen #supersonic and #hypersonic aircraft and next generation wing-in-ground-effect aircraft such as the REGENT Viceroy, the future is bright. Safe to say, some of the coolest vehicles ever created placed significant design emphasis on ground effect, and we’re here for a new era where Ground Effect comes back into the limelight. #TechnicalTuesday #UnlockingHumanPotential

The next chapter. #UnlockingHumanPotential
Exciting announcement for Apera! It is no secret that Apera has operated exclusively in the US for our first 12 months and we have been able to achieve amazing results from the UK. This being said... To fulfil our pledge of giving our clients the best possible service and enable our growing list of capabilities, we have begun the process of launching our first US office (clue is in the pic as to the exact location). We will have feet on the ground in the US within 12 months and I am so excited for this next chapter in Apera's journey. If you would like to be a part of this please reach out. #unlockinghumanpotential

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐬 68 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬, 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 44 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐢𝐧 2 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠? Answer: Absolutely nothing. However... in the late 1950s A.A. Griffith of Rolls-Royce Royce pitched this wild Mach-2 concept, that aimed to tackle 2x highly complex engineering challenges at once. #Supersonic speed and #VTOL. The design was submitted to the Supersonic Transport Aircraft Committee (STAC) around 1958 but, like many bold proposals of the era, it ultimately failed to progress beyond the concept stage. Today, the concepts of VTOL, supersonic passenger transport and blended wings are back in the limelight, but it remains unlikely that we will see anything like the RR Griffith concept. 68 engines : 44 passengers. An unusual ratio and it's somewhat unlikely the economics would work. The post-war era was a golden era for radical innovation, particularly in aviation, and fast forward to today, it feels like we are in another golden era. The innovation and spirit of A.A. Griffith's 60+ year old concept lives on. We are here for it. #UnlockingHumanPotential

Living and breathing the Apera culture. A key part of #TheCode is to embrace a mindset of 𝐍𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐬. Escape that comfort zone, push boundaries. #UnlockingHumanPotential
𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐞𝐰, 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐨! Last week a friend asked if I could help out modelling her new gym clothing brand, it’s something I’ve never done before but my gut instinct told me to go for it and it was so much fun! I’m not leaving recruitment to be an influencer just yet 😉 but I hope this gives someone the encouragement to push themselves outside of their comfort zone today - you never know what you can do until you try! #UnlockingHumanPotential

It's true, we're all geeks and proud of it. We love the spaces we operate in and our motivated by these technologies shaping our future for the better. ...and what better way to celebrate #Thanksgiving than a glorious P51? #UnlockingHumanPotential
𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫. The world is obsessed with working on the hot new thing that is well funded and more often than not with no actual interest, passion or experience in it. At Apera, every single person in our business has genuine passion for the industries & technologies we work in. We are here for the long run, not just to make a quick $$$. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐮𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨. 𝐖𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞. I have worked in Aerospace & Defence for over 12 years now and have seen the industry go full circle many times. As of today I have never been more passionate about it nor wanted to push the technologies further more. I know whoever I speak to will feel the passion I have for what I do and it matters. Work with a partner that knows what they are doing but more importantly actually cares what you are trying to achieve... this goes for any supplier. As an aside, I'm grateful to have grown up around engineering and having a family that instilled a passion for all things aerospace & automotive from an early age.
