November update @ Analyst House ⚡ Wins 🏘️ - Best revenue month by 21% !!! - Roger Nichols joined the team full time - 2 new clients, both financial reporting optimization - Went live with a client, replacing full-time controller for 1/3 cost - Inbound engine is working really well (prospects & interesting folks) - Repeatable playbook coming into focus... - Accounting transformation project (3-6mo), then monthly accounting - Wrote 5 beehiiv newsletters for my loyal 58 subscribers!! - https://lnkd.in/gwwdKwcJ Needs improvement 🛖 - I am buying wayy too many breakfast burritos 🌯 - Pipeline is quite significant, but... - ...Talent pipeline needs more attention (hiring ~Q1) (DM me!) - A chunk of this revenue is transitory - projects closing in Dec / Jan... - ...Expecting 1-2 down months as we wrap these projects - Organic newsletter growth is plateauing - Calendar is absolutely smashed This was a month of insane W's. So stoked to have Roger on the team, and I'm realizing that adding FTE #2, especially somebody with solid systems intuition + high EQ, is a 1+1=3 situation. For the first time in a while, I settled into a routine in the new office. The two of us offered improved client experiences while carving out time to improve our internal systems. Over the next 3 months, I'm super excited to build the Analyst House operating system that will take us to 100 clients & $1M+ ARR. We are rolling out a "practice management system", upgrading our Notion to-do list to a purpose-built accounting platform with all the bells and whistles. We actually built one before, but didn't adopt it well, and it didn't stick. Totally my fault. Going to do it right this time. I also plan to deploy an army of 1000 Zaps, whirring around the ether, and getting shit done to save our time for high value work. This sprint to roll out internal technology to improve our lives + client experiences will improve 1) revenue capacity per employee, and 2) scalability in the long-term. Stoked to keep building and sharing!

October update @ Analyst House ⚡ - Moved back to Colorado! - Strongest revenue month by 25% - Recruited and hired first full time employee, starting Dec 1!!! - Wrote 4 email newsletters, bringing total to 7!!! Linked below. - https://lnkd.in/gwwdKwcJ - Implementing Campfire, Ramp, & Gusto to streamline accounting for a few clients - Signed 3 new bookkeeping clients (Software, CPG, and Imports) - Planning szn... built 3 financial models, with 2 more in progress - Building out 3 client financial dashboards in google sheets You might have noticed, I've been quieter on socials this month. Real talk, it's an absolute grind to service this much client work as such a small team. Late nights and weekends are the only ways to stay ahead. Investing time into brand building & posting on social media while we have outstanding tasks is bad optics, and bad prioritization. I'm so grateful for all this food on my plate, and all the trust our clients have invested into us. In October, I realized the risk inherent in such a small team when I got PNEUMONIA(?), and the work didn't stop. I am VERY MUCH looking forwards to December, as our first full time accountant begins, and we will finally have some redundancy. I'm excited to share who it is, and why they bring so much to the table. AND I'M STOKED TO BUILD MORE SYSTEMS! Follow along for updates!

Little solution we invented for an Analyst House client should save 5-10 hours per week for their team. Client uses a niche A/R system specific to their industry that syncs invoices with Quickbooks, but doesn’t have great mapping options for all the fields they need. For example, whenever they pushed invoices over from their A/R system to QB, the payment collections were turned off. We used Zapier to set “allow pay by ACH” to TRUE whenever an invoice is created in QB. I’ve also found QB invoice reminders to be fairly unreliable when created from another system, for whatever reason. So we used Zapier to immediately email the invoice to their customer’s primary email address upon creation. Between emailing invoices, collecting payment, and reconciling A/R, this is gonna free up quite a bit of time. #futureoffinance

  • Keeping it in-house!

A mentor recently advised me to find reputable bookkeeping partners and to outsource the work. That I should essentially become a broker of accounting services. ...But I listened to the Acquired podcast about Bernard Arnault and LVMH. BA says that when you control manufacturing, you control quality. And quality is the name of our game. Therefore, we perform all bookkeeping in-house. #analysthouse #futureoffinance

📈 A few thoughts on startup financial models: The objective of a financial model is to understand how changing future inputs (ad spend, salespeople, customer success reps, new equipment) will realistically change outputs (new leads, new customers, churn/NRR, throughput). A financial model's inputs can vary by industry and by company. A financial model is only as accurate as your historical data, accounting and otherwise. A financial model should probably include data from many systems, including an accounting system, a CRM, ad-hoc internal tools, and more. A financial model lives and breathes and requires updates as your business model evolves. A financial model should become more precise over time as your business grows and gathers more data. When an investor-facing financial model is significantly different than your internal financial model, you set yourself up for failure. Most companies begin thinking about financial models when it's time to fundraise. Most companies learn the value in maintaining their model after building it for the first time. A well built financial model can prove to investors that you think about your business in a constructive way. If you're thinking about building or revamping your company financial model, check out Analyst House. #futureoffinance #financialmodelling #businessgrowth #analysthouse
