Our goal was never to become just a glass of sustainable, convenient French wine in your fridge that overdelivers for the price. We want to become part of your kitchen. We designed our boxes with the incredible team at Wedge so that you'd want to have our box on your kitchen counter. You'd even put it on display when you had guests just so folks could see it. Most wine producers might find it odd to be listed as a top kitchen product, but for us we're a step closer to our bigger goal. We've been involved in the wine industry for a combined 30+ years. Those years have covered nearly every part of the industry from cellar intern to winemaker, head of operations and now starting a brand which really means marketing and sales. Over this time and across these different parts of the industry, one thing has been consistent...sustainability or at least the focus of sustainability and how it stops when the wine is packaged. The industry is hyper focused on vineyard practices, what is sprayed, electric tractors, is the winery using solar power, does it recycle its waste water? Then, without much thought, the majority of wines go into glass bottles. Only very recently has their been a small shift to lightweight glass but heavy glass still represents quality in the consumers eye. When Julien Gervreau shared some data with us around the contribution of packaging to the carbon footprint, our minds were blown. We had no idea that over 40% is attributed to the packaging. If someone deeply imbedded within the wine industry (us) didn't know this, how was the consumer supposed to know??? And Drink Ami Ami was born with the goal to educate the consumer and offer an alternative that sacrifices nothing. Not quality of wine, not cost...nothing. It's been an interesting challenge to convince everyone that great wine can come in a box and it will continue to be, especially retailers. It's going to take more heavy hitters like Eric Asimov and Jason Haas advocating for boxed wine or bringing the reality of glass recycling to light. It's also going to take an group of relentless, persistent, passionate individuals and boxed wine advocates to keep making noise. Squeaky wheel gets the grease right? I'm incredibly proud to share the launch of the Alternative Packaging Alliance alongside Nomadica, Juliet Wine, @sandygiovese, @communalbrands, Tablas Creek Vineyard and Really Good Boxed Wine to help bring awareness, educate and ultimately get folks drinking wine from eco-friendly packaging. This group of contrarians includes Allison Luvera, Kristin Olszewski, Melissa Monti Saunders, Master of Wine, Amy Troutmiller, Amy Ezrin, Jake Whitman and Jason Haas. Check out their wines, buy a box and join the revolution. https://lnkd.in/gjegWhyz

This one hits a little different, not just because its Esther Mobley and the San Francisco Chronicle and not just because its our backyard and arguably the toughest wine consumer to convert to alternative formats. Its different because on the same day this was published, we spent the day in SF visiting retailers, trying to get new placements. We went from months of no answers, no shows and "not interested in boxed wine" to 10 visits and very likely 10 new placements in 1 day. On more than one occasion we were greeted by "saw you guys in the Chronicle this morning" before we'd even introduced ourselves. We know the demand for higher quality boxed wines is there, we have the DTC customers to prove it. Our current challenge is convincing retailers to give us some shelf space, not the bottom shelf of the back corner with the other boxed wine either. Our quality deserves to be on the shelf next to other bottles and we're getting there. Jason Haas summed it up perfectly below: “There’s no reason for most drink-this-soon wines to go in a glass bottle that takes so much energy to mine and melt and mold and ship,” said Haas. “There’s a lot of wines that should really be sold in boxes rather than bottles.” Thanks to Esther Mobley for shining some light on this format. https://lnkd.in/gmxJzyDZ
