According to 2022 quality controls, 29.5% of German wine is declared "sweet" - almost half is declared "dry." However, there are substantial regional differences. The Ahr's sweet share is just above 6%. On the Mosel (60%) and in Württemberg (47%) the shares of sweet wines are much higher.

Wine Marketing and German Wine Queens Through The Ages. In 1931, as the first and only German wine region, the Palatinate, crowned its regional wine queen to help market their wine. In 1949, there was still only one competition but, following her Palatinate election, Elisabeth Kuhn, was named the first German Wine Queen, i.e., she officially became both the Palatine and German Wine Queen. Thereafter, wine queens from all German wine regions competed for the national title. James Ensor (Belgium 1860-1949) The Drunkards, 1883. Ensor was a Belgian painter and printmaker, an important influence on expressionism and surrealism who lived in Ostend for most of his life. He was associated with the artistic group Les XX.
