NEW OSHA Regulations: Considerations and Tips to Navigate the Potential Changes Ahead! With the new OSHA regulations coming up, we've been fielding many different questions. While the rules are still in the 'rule-making' phase, we’re here to help our customers prepare. Here are some thoughts, questions and points that might help you understand what could be ahead: 🔍 Record-Keeping: The new OSHA rules will likely require fire departments to keep records of what they’ve done to comply. Are there any new rules about record-keeping or reporting? Will there be a standard way to show compliance at the federal or state level? Without standardization, there could be a lot of uncertainty. 👨🚒 Volunteer Departments: What rules will apply to volunteer fire organizations? It seems like this will depend on how compensation for members is defined and how much it is. If the rules haven't been set yet, when will they be? 🔧 Operational Changes: What specific changes in the new OSHA rules will affect how fire departments operate? 📚 Training & Resources: What resources and training will be available to help fire departments understand and follow the new OSHA rules? 🔍 Safety Reviews: How should fire departments assess their current safety practices to find areas for improvement with the new regulations? ✅ Staying Compliant: What steps can fire departments take to stay compliant, such as regular checks, updating procedures, and ongoing education for staff? ⚠️ Risks of Non-Compliance: What are the risks of not following the new OSHA rules, and how can these risks be reduced? We've heard chatter amongst some volunteer departments thinking they may need to hire paid staff to comply with the new rules, especially for planning and risk reduction. They worry that the cost of complying might be more than the cost of not complying. We'll share more information as it becomes available.
