Did Google DeepMind's VEO 2 AI video model steal OpenAI's Shipmas thunder? We dive into it this week on AI For Humans! 👇 Google AI is really cooking now and we're here for it. We break down Google’s surprising wave of AI product launches—from its stunning new video model (VEO 2) to enhanced capabilities within Gemini. We explore how Google may have just outmaneuvered OpenAI’s momentum, pushing the industry into a new era of 4K AI video, massively expanded context windows, and reduced hallucinations. We also discuss OpenAI’s latest moves, including the newly announced 1-800 ChatGPT number, NVIDIA’s new Jetson Nano unit for robotics, and how all these developments signal that advanced, more human-like AI interactions are closer than ever. Plus, we dig into the implications of big tech and Hollywood working on AI rights, Meta’s watermarking approach for authenticated video, and even try out Google’s Whisk to blend images, scenes, and styles seamlessly. If you’ve been looking for a snapshot of where the AI landscape is heading—and what it could mean for your business, creativity, or next big idea—this episode is packed with insights. As always, tune in and stay ahead of the curve with us! Is AI *actually* slowing down? According to reporting this week, you'd think the peak has happened, it's toast, it's all over. But is it? Absolutely not. This week on AI For Humans, Kevin P. and I go through the (multiple) stories of frontier model training runs not delivering as much advancement as expected and discuss why the shift might be moving from massive initial training runs to 'inference' training (we explain that). Plus, Kevin got hands on with Suno v4, the next stage of AI music models, and it sounds *significantly* better than any model I've heard before. The whole thing is available on YT below or on all your podcast platforms! YT link here: https://lnkd.in/gGKbu3iu

Exactly how close are we to AGI (Artificial General Intelligence)? Well, OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar says... closer than we think. Is that a good thing? Today in AI For Humans we dive into AGI at the top of the show discussing all the update from OpenAI as well as James Cameron's recent talk where he says he's "all in on AI but AGI...not so much" and think about where we could go from here. There's so much more in today's episode: AI at Meta's possible search engine, a cool AI tool that promises to create soundtracks from video, Kevin P. give us his Apple Intelligence hands-on and a whole lot more AI news. • We Love This: ElevenLabs Text-To-Sound Effect Here's a rough demo, using ChatGPT to imagine a list of sounds that when put together, create a sound bed for a sunny morning at a medieval hot dog stand We prompt ElevenLab's for: ✓ Gentle morning birds ✓ Soft breeze in an urban city ✓ Sizzling sausages ✓ Coffee cart whirring ✓ Low hum of city street ✓ Clock tower ringing Layer in the best sound bites it provides (it won't nail it every time) and the result is something reasonably good! For a medieval hot dog stand anyway.

Our 3 can't-miss AI headlines of the week: 1️⃣ Runway's Act(or)-One Runway's latest sorcery, overlaying a human performance onto… well anything it can identify as a face, is live just in time for the election. Gavin dug into what an exciting turning point this represents for creators in yesterday’s video. 2️⃣ An AI Model That Uses Your Computer! If you caught Thursday’s episode you saw us blather at length on this: Anthropic's release of a Computer Use model brings us a step closer to true AI agents. Currently only available via API, it uses images of the desktop to fulfill a user’s request one keystroke and mouse-scooch at a time. AI! Controlling our computers! 3️⃣ The Launch of Apple Intelligence Pushing to devices this week, our early impressions of Apple Intelligence are it's a start, but not quite as much as we'd hoped to see. A heads up you have to request access on iOS and MacOS devices with M1 or better via System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri. It all feels a bit underwhelming, but bigger picture we anticipate this could push AI even further into the mainstream as Siri introduces millions to ChatGPT for the first time. ✉️ And because there's a lot of AI fluff out there, we're sharing our top 3 headlines each week on a new secret email list 🤫 https://lnkd.in/gs95vgbJ

  • Rolling out to Runway users now, Act-One. AI motion capture made unbelievably simple 👀 Is it as good as the real deal? Definitely not. But it's quickly making trivial what in the past required entire creative teams. It matches eye lines and micro expressions, delivering something that feels representative of an actor's performance. As someone in sports once said "you have to skate where the puck is going." Imagine having two years left on a production and needing to decide if this will be good enough in 12 months time? Runway provided a host of interesting examples I'll link in the top comment. In the meantime, you won't want to miss tomorrow's show (https://lnkd.in/gfcBYTqH) because we've got thoughts!

  • Imagine acting out every role in a scene, from your bedroom, in your jimmy jams 👀 On the heels of their deal with Lionsgate, Runway CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela is making the rounds to media outlets discussing the future of Hollywood + Tech. But the demo that caught our attention came from a live talk he gave at a Bloomberg conference, where they discuss using AI to augment an actor’s performance. It's another example of generative AI coming for at least a part of Hollywood production — the mo-cap suit. We believe Generative AI tools are “raising the floor” for all creatives and allowing much smaller teams to make high quality content. Is this as good as what WETA Digital could do? Not even close. But, if the creative is good and the effects are just good enough, I’d still watch the hell out of it. We, as humans, connect with great storytelling and we’re about to get so many more stories that some of them will be incredible. Maybe quite a few.

  • Gavin and Kevin are IN PERSON this week and the vibes are unstoppable: ✅ Adobe drops some wild AI updates ✅ Nuclear power plants, coming to a small industrial park near you ✅ And we clone Kevin's voice with a free desktop app 👀 Tune in on YouTube or your favorite pod player, both linked in the comments 👇

The AI For Humans Newsletter has a 50% click through rate and zero unsubscribes this week. BECAUSE IT'S GOOD... and for creatives. Kevin P. and I wanted to reboot the newsletter and do something more focused than your typical AI newsletter so this is just once a week and it's specifically for creative professionals (or those that want to get more creative with AI tools). Each week, we go through the AI stories and look through the things that matter most and highlight them for you and yours. And we're so luck to have the amazing Jason Staats, CPA help us put it together. He does a TON of the legwork on his own and you should also be following him on this platform as well. Did I mention it's totally free? BECAUSE IT IS.
