“This training changed some learners. As you're saying, I am the happiest teacher, it is not usual, but it started once you started to train us!” At Kakoni Wisdom Primary School in Kyaka II Refugee Settlement, our Child Well-Being Training left a lasting impact. Teachers like Tugineyo Doreen witnessed remarkable transformations in their students, fostering active participation and renewed hope. A huge shoutout to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation without whose generous support this wouldn’t have been possible. Your contribution is helping transform refugee education and empower communities. We had the privilege of hosting representatives from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, the Office of the Prime Minister (#OPM) led by the Camp Commandant, local government officials from Kyegegwa district, and local leaders at our Innovation Centre in Kyakka II Refugee Settlement. Our key discussions focused on the impact of our programs on the refugee and host communities including access to employment opportunities under our Pathpreneur project. We elaboratively discussed strategies to ensure project sustainability in the absence of financial donations. Working together with key stakeholders in the refugee space remains important to addressing challenges facing #RLOs in Uganda. #PathpreneurProject #Entrepreneurship #RefugeeEmpowerment Conrad N. Our Jobtech Project for Refugees is paving ways to economic inclusion for urban refugees in Kampala through impactful partnerships, digital training, and job opportunities. In collaboration with Kyosk, we recently conducted an information session and onboarded refugee ambassadors onto Kyosk.app — a digital platform that connects informal retailers to fast-moving consumer goods by offering free delivery of goods to the retailers at subsidized prices. Refugee retail owners often face challenges such as language barriers, bias, and high transport costs through the traditional distribution chain. By directly delivering products to refugee owned businesses, the platform is mitigating these barriers and encouraging refugee inclusion in the economic space. #RefugeeInclusion #Livelihoods #EconomicInclusion #AYAN Jobtech Alliance Mercycorps Uganda Conrad N. Creating a child-friendly space comes with a responsibility of instilling discipline, respect, stewardship, and peaceful coexistence in children as they interact in a shared space. Our field coordinator Okwir Nelson, engaged the children accessing our facility in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement in a session focused on managing conflicts, mitigating accidents, and respect for the space and one another during play. Empowering children to take ownership of their environment does not only give them a safe space to play but also the opportunity to learn, build friendships, share and develop a sense of responsibility. #ChildfriendlySpace #Play Conrad N. At the recent launch of our Innovation Centre in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, our Team Lead, Simon Marot Touloung in his powerful speech expressed gratitude and the transformative potential of refugees. He extended heartfelt thanks to the Government of Uganda, through the Office of the Prime Minister (#OPM) for allocating land to AYAN in all areas of operation and for their open-door policy that has enabled Refugee-led Organizations (#RLOs) to register their initiatives, associate, and contribute to serving their communities. This centre built with the funding of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Simon acknowledged, “Without the generous support from the Hilton Foundation, the dream of this Innovation Centre would have remained on paper. I want to thank them for bringing this to life.” Simon called on partners and donors to invest in refugee talents, affirming, "Refugees possess incredible skills and abilities. This centre was constructed by a refugee contractor, and all the furniture in it was made by refugees except the plastic chairs. Let us create spaces and opportunities for them to thrive." #RefugeeEmpowerment #InnovationCentre UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Oxfam in Uganda RELON UGANDA YARID - Young African Refugees for Integral Development Ajwok Mary Valentino Victor Alex Patrick B Kanyeihamba
