Who We Are: The ABA Section of International Law (the Section) is the leader in the development of policy in the international arena, the promotion of the rule of law and the education of international law practitioners. The Section focuses on a full range of international legal issues and is involved in a wide variety of substantive legal activities. The Section's purposes are to promote interest, activity, and research in international law and to further its development; increase knowledge among members of the legal profession and the general public; to promote professional relationships with lawyers similarly engaged in foreign countries; and to implement Goal IV of the Association – "To advance the rule of law in the world." The Section has over 60+ regional and practice specific committees, task forces, and working groups within twelve divisions – Africa/Eurasia, Americas/Middle East, Business Law I, Business, Law II, Business Regulation, Constituent, Disputes, Finance, Legal Practice, Public International Law (Treaty) I, Public International Law (Treaty) II, and Tax, Estates & Individuals. The Section’s recent observance of Human Rights Day sent a strong reminder that upholding the dignity and equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace in the world. Among the wide-ranging, urgent human rights issues presented included: plight of refugees, including the Rohingya; crimes against humanity in Sudan; the conditions of human rights defenders; abuses against women; and work to advance the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the United States. On the later, the ABA recently adopted Resolution 601 supporting making the Equal Rights Amendment the 28th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Resolution 601 supports enactment of with the addition of Virginia’s ratification as the necessary 38th state. New! Efua Ghartey Elected First Female President of Ghana Bar Association! Efua Ghartey, legal practitioner, has made history as she becomes the first female President of the Ghana Bar Association. She was elected during the GBA election held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). She co-founded Ghartey & Ghartey, a law firm, with her husband, Joe Ghartey in 1994.
