As an independent consulting firm, A.J. Rhem and Associates can offer unbiased discovery, research, assessment, and strategy. As outside consultants, we are not subject to internal corporate politics, nor do we have an agenda to promote or sell a particular software or hardware solution. AI Governance Frameworks 101 Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance frameworks direct AI research, development and application to ensure safety, fairness and respect for human rights. Effective AI governance includes oversight mechanisms that address risks such as bias, privacy infringement and misuse while fostering innovation and building trust. Without responsible AI governance, this technological advancement could lead to unintended consequences, such as: · Reinforcing biases · Infringing on privacy · Causing economic disruptions At their most basic, AI governance frameworks are implemented to maximize the benefits of AI while minimizing risks.

On Tuesday, December 10th I had the pleasure of moderating a panel discussion entitled “Ethical Use of Data in AI Applications” at the DGIQ East & AI Gov 2024 Conference. The panel discussion is based on a chapter in my latest book “Essential Topics in Artificial Intelligence” (https://lnkd.in/eExxbhzV). Ethical use of data in AI applications emphasizes the critical importance of ethical considerations in using data for AI applications. It explores various dimensions, including the risks of bias, the necessity for governance, and the importance of adhering to ethical standards in data selection and AI implementation. Key topics include data ethics principles, AI bias mitigation, ethical use of synthetic data, data governance, and practical strategies for implementing ethical AI. The panel discussion questions explored several key areas, which included: · An opening question that invited panelists to define the "ethical use of data" in AI and its organizational importance. · Subsequent questions addressed ethical frameworks and standards, emphasizing the need for clear guidelines. · Bias and fairness were prominent topics, with discussions on mitigating algorithmic biases, especially from legacy datasets, and the role of diverse teams in reducing bias. · Privacy and security questions highlighted safeguarding individual privacy amidst AI's growing capabilities. · Governance and regulation topics examined the adequacy of existing laws like GDPR and the role of corporate oversight. · Emerging challenges like generative AI risks and societal impacts such as job displacement were also explored. · Practical implementation was discussed in terms of building public trust and using metrics to evaluate ethical compliance. · Finally, broader societal impacts, accountability for harmful AI decisions, and the future evolution of AI ethics and global collaboration were considered. I would like to thank the panelist Sunil Soares, Katrina Ingram, and Kira R. for agreeing to participate and their insightful and thoughtful answers to the questions. I really enjoyed our conversation and the audience's contributions. #DGIQEast2024 #AIEthics #DataEthics #AISolutions #AI #AIGovernance

Want to know the most expensive mistake I see leaders at Fortune 500 companies make? Throwing millions at AI while ignoring the ROT in their knowledge base. (That’s redundant, outdated, or trivial information, by the way.) I've built and sold companies across seven industries, and here's what I've learned: Bad data is like contaminated fuel. It doesn't matter how powerful your AI engine is— garbage in, garbage out. Our Bloomfire customers discovered 70% of their data was ROTten. Think about that. You’re feeding your expensive AI system information that’s actively destroying value. Life is math. Every piece of bad data multiplies your risk and divides your returns. And I expect it applies to your bonus too. Let’s talk numbers. ---- Knowledge management is more than a tool; it’s a competitive advantage. For executives focused on driving performance and reaching key business metrics, harnessing your organization's collective knowledge can unlock exponential growth. As CEO of Bloomfire, my team helps companies turn knowledge into an actionable asset. • Follow me, Benjamin Little. • Here’s what else I’m thinking about knowledge management in 2025. Our CEO Dr. Tony Rhem was interviewed for this article. Thank you Kristin Burnham for a very insightful article!
Organizational knowledge is critically important to manage, use, and create value from, but businesses are delivering mixed results in executing on these priorities. My latest report for Harvard Business Review Analytic Services explores how AI is changing the knowledge management.
