The best way to strengthen a new business contact is to provide value by for example offering to introduce them to someone who may be useful and relevant for them to connect with, or extend an invite to an event which may be of interest, based on the conversation you’ve had with them. This makes it much more memorable than purely an invitation to keep in touch without a tangible reason to do so.

I am a fan of exchanging business cards, even though I realize that some folks prefer sharing contact info electronically. Then within a few days after the event, I start by sending a LinkedIn invite and reference something we talked about. Once they accept my invite, I send a link to my scheduling tool to those I would like to have a Zoom visit with in the near future. If I can't find them on LinkedIn, I send an email to the person to reference our connection at the event. And for some of those people, I will send the scheduling tool as just described. Finally, I have my assistant put the info from the business card into my database.

Don't let the gap seep in between then and now. As memories are too short. Write a brief email to each contact you met reminding and invoking the interesting and thought provoking points of conversation you had with them at the event. Connecting on social media is also a constructive means. Send a connection request on LinkedIn, Twitter (now X), or other relevant platforms. Depending on the profile of the contact, you could decide where to send request, even Instagram is also an option today for knowledge sharing. You may also explore reaching out to contacts with whom you'd like to discuss further opportunities of mutual benefit. Establish your credibility by sending articles, blog posts, or news that might interest your new contacts.

One thing I’ve found helpful after networking events is sending a quick follow-up message within couple of days. I make it personal by mentioning something specific we talked about—it helps keep the connection warm. I also like to connect on LinkedIn with a short note about how we met and why I’d like to stay in touch. If I see potential for collaboration, I suggest a coffee chat or virtual meeting to explore opportunities further. It’s simple, but it works.

Well, using #LinkedIn is definitely a great way to be able to keep in touch with connections, after back-to-back networking events. It would also help if you open a private LinkedIn group with your new and old connections where you could do monthly meetings using LinkedIn video events, and also to just keep in touch with one another and post about current developments and if members have concerns or need tips, then is a good venue to be able to ask advice and referrals from members of the group. 🦋🤩😊🦋

Exchanging business cards, whether physical or electronic. It's important to follow up with everyone you had a networking session with, even if they aren't your target audience. Connecting with interesting people is always beneficial. I use a CRM system to manage my contacts.

What they said, with all the LinkedIn and email follow-throughs. ASAP is best. And just like you send out Holiday greeting cards, subsequent LinkedIn quickies, (even an "X, Happy December!") is an easy nuture to differentiate you.
