I don't recommend functional resume formats - in my experience, recruiters simply don't like or trust them. They've been used for decades by job-seekers who are trying to hide employment gaps or downplay some aspect of their work history, and recruiters know that. In my opinion, stick to reverse chronological.

Before writing your resume, think about a job that makes you excited. If you're not sure about that, give it a pause. Take a break. Writing a resume without specific jobs in mind lacks purpose.

𝟐 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: First... ATS read top to bottom and left to right. Don't use graphics, charts or tables as the information will be distorted and possibly even unreadable. Second, if your job history is stable then use a chronological format... current and most recent jobs first. This is easiest to follow and most likely expected. If you have an unstable history OR, such as job hoping, different industries or even jumping back into the job market after a considerable time off, then a functional format "might" be best so you can show skill and focus on the job being asked of you. There are usually no absolute rights r wrongs, just best practices and personal opinions to construct a resume that is most likely going to PERFORM...

Don't worry over format, care that your strengths are being highlighted, your accomplishments are clear, and you value obvious. Your resume has 3 critical jobs: 1. get read 2. arouse an eager desire to speak with you 3. manage the interview. It manages the interview by generating the questions you most want to be asked. This is problem I was tasked with solving, these are the resources I had, this was the solution Next, take the projects that best highlight the skills you are selling and list the steps you took to solve it, number them, leave in the error you made. This list of how you solved the problem has the answers to the questions they ask. The problem, resource, solution is the resume. The rest is the interview.

Be effective in content, but brief; in recent years, they employers may not caution you in advance, but one page resume's are POPULAR, and appreciated............more than two pages, the RIGHT PEOPLE will not ever see it...
