I believe consumer demand in fashion is a very unpredictable thing. As an eco designer my responsibility is to put people and planet in forefront, which means creating products while keeping in mind its impact on the people involved and on the planet. For this, we as a brand try to procure leftover textiles, damaged apparels, paragliders and parachutes etc and work with recycled or organic materials only. Through upcycling and recycling we add value and life to something which is considered dead or waste by others. And at every step we try to stay transparent as that is equally important. Having said that, we also focus on giving livelihood to community or artisans who have stopped working on their crafts.

1. Promote your sustainable values through your brand image i.e. social media, narrative of designs 2. Create precise pattern making that can be calculated on the wide and length of the fabric (scaling) to prevent fabric waste 3. Get more creative by using leftover fabrics as new functional products/designs

It is all about transparency and traceability. How you are sourcing materials, your textile dye process, and the production labour are all important to creating a sustainable fashion line. Consumer demands have to be calculated in the the cost of the product without losing sight of your values.

The brands that do sustainability 'well' are those that are transparent about their design and manufacturing processes. They are also ones that do not follow every micro-trend. It comes down to specifics: (1) where is the brand sourcing their products (2) which material are they pulling from and what it takes to create that sort of fabric (3) the treatment of the crafters, sewists, designers who are creating the clothing (4) the contributions the brand makes to the sustainability community. Now more than ever, customers are attentive to the practices and impacts a brand has at a global scale. The expectations have risen, and for good reason.

To adapt: 1. Stay Consumer-Centric: Engage with consumers directly through surveys, social media, or feedback loops to understand their evolving needs and preferences. 2. Flexible and Innovative Design:Develop adaptable designs that can be worn in multiple ways or for different occasions 3.Use of Sustainable Materials:Embrace new sustainable materials, like recycled fabrics, organic fibres. 4.Circular Fashion Model:Implement a circular fashion model by offering services like recycling, repair, and take-back programs. 5. Transparency and Traceability:Consumers value transparency about the environmental and social impact of their purchases. 6.Customisation and On-Demand Production:Offer customization options or shift to on-demand production.

Research sustainable materials, reuse and recycle as well. Promote opportunities for new ideas related with sustainability. Stay tuned about all the process of your company and improve method in the name of better use of resources making the cycle of your product healthier for the planet from the beginning until the end.

As a fashion stylist focused on sustainable designs, adapting to shifting consumer demands requires a proactive approach. First, stay informed about emerging trends in sustainability, such as eco-friendly materials and ethical production practices. Incorporate versatile pieces into your collections that emphasize longevity and can be styled in various ways, catering to a desire for minimalism and functionality. Collaborate with brands committed to sustainability, ensuring your designs reflect these principles. By combining creativity with consumer insights, you can effectively meet demands while championing a more sustainable fashion future.

Transparency and consumer education is key to sustainability. There's a lot that consumers think they know about "sustainable" fashion, but it will be up to us to educate them those dirt cheap clothes come at a cost so if they truly want to be more sustainable, they can't be $50 for a blazer. Or that sustainability is not just about wearing something labelled "recycled" or "organic". There's such a re-education that needs to happen in order for a sustainable brand to exist, flourish, and continue to get customers to buy their products.
