You’re in a job interview and the interviewer asks, “What makes you unique?

One needs to be confident to explain how you can make a contribution to the new company based on some instances from your past job. You can share that example and highlight what skills and qualities of yours helped to get success in that assignment. You can also touch upon some of your personal strengths which will help you to drive success in your new job.

This is where you can not only share your unique value proposition as it directly relates to the role but also share a value-add--something the organization will value (e.g., skill, experience, perspective, trait) that isn't required in the job posting but that will set you apart from everyone else once the employer knows you will bring it to the role.

"𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞?" they are looking to understand what sets you apart from other candidates. you can share something special about yourself. For example, you might mention your ability to solve problems creatively. Let's say there was a situation at your previous job where a project faced unexpected challenges. You could explain how you came up with a unique solution that helped the team overcome those difficulties. This shows that you bring a creative and problem-solving approach, which makes you stand out from others.

When employers ask what makes you unique, they want to know what makes you different from others and the value you bring to the team/company. They want to know your specific skills and strengths. It's not just about saying you're good at something. You need to demonstrate how you used those skills and strengths to accomplish things in your current/previous roles. To create an impact, you also want to know what the employer cares about most. Learn about the company and the job needs. With that, you can talk about your skills and strengths that match the employer's needs.

While answering this answers. I will cover some major aspects about my profile. 1. My diverse experiences. 2. Creative problem-solving skills (I can explain in a story) 3. Relentless pursuit of learning 4. Organized communication skills. 5. The capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties 6. Global perspective - How adaptive and easy going I am with different people and different cultures.

In response to "What makes you unique?" in a job interview, focus on a specific quality or experience that differentiates you from other candidates and aligns with the job requirements. You might say, "What makes me unique is my combination of skills and experiences, such as [specific skill or experience], which not only fits perfectly with the role but also adds a unique perspective to your team. For example, [briefly describe a relevant achievement or experience]. This blend enables me to approach challenges creatively and drive results effectively." This approach showcases your value and how it specifically benefits the company.

I shared a post on this just last week. You need to be prepared with your Unique Value Add when going into an interview or even a phone screen for that matter if you want to move forward in the interview process. This is something you should be prepared with as soon as you start applying because recruiters will call you and want to know your answer. How do you stand out from all of the other qualified candidates? Being qualified isn't enough. You have to determine what makes you unique and how you will bring added value to the company. This takes introspection and research on the company and their pain points and looking back on your failures and successes to develop your UVA.

In any interview, understanding what sets you apart is paramount. It's not just about reciting a laundry list of skills, but about showcasing how your unique blend of experiences, skills, and insights can directly address the needs of the role and the organization. By thoroughly researching the position and identifying gaps or areas where you can make a significant impact, you can tailor your response to highlight concrete examples from your past endeavors. It's this authenticity and depth that truly sets you apart, demonstrating not just what you can do, but how your past experiences uniquely equip you to excel in the role.

What makes me 'unique' is quite simple. The 3 Ps- My passion, perspective and personality is what makes me unique and stands out from the rest.

Always consider mentioning a trait you feel Make a good fit for the business. Prepare a list of attributes post reading the job description which sets you apart from competitors. Make sure that your answer displays how you are a good fit in which you have little prior experience.

Employers are not looking for job seekers who have all the skills. They're looking for job seekers who can add unique value. They're looking for those who have unique combinations of skills, qualities and experiences that will add to their team, culture and strategic goals. By focusing on your unique combinations of skills (perhaps you're skilled at technical assays but also a great cross-functional collaborator), and how these unique combinations will benefit the company (you'll engage all relevant stakeholders in a project and ensure the project is technically sound), you can nail the "What makes you unique?" question and be the one who gets hired.

What do you bring to the table for this particular employer, at this time, in this specific role. Make your value proposition stand out from the other candidates being interviewed. What could ensure the real fit here? Did you do the research? Did you speak with others on the team? Have you uncovered pain points you have dealt with successfully before? This can help you stand out!

🔍 First, think about what you've done in the past that matches up with what they're looking for in the job. This could be stuff you've learned in similar industries, skills you've picked up along the way, or any certificates you've earned that show you're ready for the job. 🌟 Then, show them what makes you different. Maybe it's your experiences from different jobs that give you a unique way of looking at things. Or perhaps you have some skills that aren't very common but could be really useful in this job. Either way, highlight what sets you apart and how it could help the company succeed.

To answer this question adequately, you need to be fully aware of the value you bring to a role. This includes past experiences, as well as what drives you. WHY are you applying for this role? If it's just to get a job, I'm afraid you're going to struggle. Define your WHY. (And it must be geared towards the success of the company / their clients). e.g. "I believe performing on site maintenance is more than just a science. It is an art. It should be done in a way that is aesthetically pleasing to elevate the experience of luxury, even in something common such as hiding cables. That's a huge part in what makes visitors stay, and becoming regulars." And then follow up with an example. This will immediately help you stand out.

Customize your response to emphasize qualities and experiences that are most relevant to the job you're applying for. Focus on highlighting aspects of your background, skills, and accomplishments that directly address the needs and priorities of the role and employer.

Every person has their own uniqueness. It is how one discerns personal unique traits from their work life persona. Having a consistent, reliable work ethic with the ability to engage with a wide range of ages and personalities is in my opinion a uniqueness that is desired not only by employers but by people in general. Showing genuine interest in ones employment goals, colleagues and the world in general in an increasing environment of me, me, me certainly makes one unique. The ultimate is to be fortunate enough to have an employer that appreciates each persons own uniqueness and is able to place them in a position where they can shine and thrive.

Use this as an opportunity to show where you really shine and stand out. Deliver your message in a sincere and genuine tone, but do not feel shy to express your unique successes and experiences at this time. This is also an opportunity to throw in a personal fact or two. If you have something in common with the interviewer, this is a great time to very briefly make that connection. Simply, be professional YOU!

🌟 When you're talking to the interviewer, be yourself and share stories that show what makes you special. Maybe you have a different way of solving problems, or you're really passionate about something in the job. 🌟 Use your own words to talk about what you're good at and what you've done in the past. And make sure to listen carefully to what the recruiter says and respond to their questions. This shows you're paying attention and can work well with others.

Your visual impression or body language, as well as your attitude, are just as important as what you say when it comes to the overall effect you have on others. Generally, it is important to convey the image of a person with whom the interviewer would like to work. Enthusiasm, interest level, sincerity, openness, and warmth create the “chemistry” that often makes or breaks a hiring decision.

I have always advise to go extra prepared for the interview. Try- Storytelling with a Twist: Instead of just recounting experiences or skills, wrap them in a short, engaging story that includes a surprising or humorous element. This could be a quirky hobby that taught you a valuable professional skill, or a travel experience that changed your perspective on teamwork. The key is to link this story back to your professional value in an unexpected way. OR Show, Don't Tell: If applicable, consider bringing a physical representation of your work or achievements to the interview. This could be anything from a design portfolio to a piece of technology you helped develop. It makes your uniqueness tangible and memorable.

Each of us has different experiences, from childhood through adulthood, a part of different cultures, experienced school differently, had various roles in projects, as well as different health issues, etc. So to ask what makes you unique is not a great question to be honest and it’s not fair. But if you want to respond, you can talk about how all the things you’ve experienced have been building blocks to where you are today!

Be genuine and sincere in your response, showcasing your authentic personality and enthusiasm for the opportunity. Communicate with confidence and conviction, demonstrating your belief in your abilities and your potential to make a positive impact in the role.

Your mind would probably go blank if you get this asked without having rehearsed it prevously, therefore, that's number one. Rehearse it. Most of the times this question is intended to unveil soft skills rather than hard skills, so keep that in mind. Perhaps you can mention a strong value you strongly hold, and give an example of a time you put it into practice.

After sharing alignment of your skills and successes with the job requirements and company mission, think strategically of add-on bonus skills and interests your unique hire would bring to the role, company, and potential projects - speak to the future.

Uniqueness is often found in a blend of skills, rather than a single skill or attribute. So if you are asked this question? Think of two or three things, which, if combined, create your value proposition at work. For example, you might be good at designing strategy, AND operationalizing it with great change management skills as an added bonus.

When asked "what makes you unique?" you have the opportunity to show your preparation, understanding of the company's problem set, and how you are a part of the solution. >Know your superpower - how you make a difference at work. >Research the company to understand the problems they solve or their internal problem set. >Explain how your superpower is a solution to the company's or its customers' problems. That is what makes you unique.

First, you must know yourself. Start by asking yourself these questions: • What are my career goals-both in my next job and five years down the road? • What do I like (or dislike) about my career/job? • What experience do I want to gain in my next assignment? • What are my key strengths and opportunities for improvement?

Answer: They ask, "Unique?" My answer: Honesty and a story. Everyone blends experiences and passions. Mine? Lifelong love for hobbies combined with my background in a field. Most focused solely on academics, but I used my hobby to solve a problem or gain valuable skills. This solidified my understanding and instilled a resourceful approach to challenges. This problem-solving mindset translates well to specific job duties where I can contribute by benefiting the company. My hobby also fostered creativity and pushed me outside my comfort zone, teaching adaptability. Confidence is key. Briefly tell your story, highlighting the connection to the role. Let your passion shine. This genuine approach showcases what truly sets you apart.

Share examples or anecdotes that illustrate how your unique qualities have contributed to your success in previous roles or projects. Avoid generic or clichéd responses and strive to make a memorable impression by showcasing your authenticity, creativity, and enthusiasm for the opportunity. Finally, use this question as an opportunity to demonstrate your self-awareness and ability to articulate your value proposition effectively, setting yourself apart as a strong and compelling candidate for the position.

Answers like "Honesty," "Passion," "Great communicator," etc. are so generic that they have the exact opposite effect. This question is not about you- as much as it seems. The only thing that makes you unique is how good of a fit you are. So it depends on what stage of the interview that question is asked. If it's the first time you're talking and you don't know about the role much yet, then you say: "Well I don't know yet, let's figure out..." This gives you an entry into learning about the key traits they're after. And if it's asked late in the game, then simply go like: "It seems you guys are looking for {key trait}, and what I can tell you about myself is {insert a precise example}"

Enthusiasm and passion are important. Being able to present as enthusiastic and passionate about the position and the responsibilities is important. When it is something that you actually love doing, your face lights up when you talk about it and interviewers can see that.
