When planning my debut feature film Dinobi, the focus was on translating a simple, human story into an emotionally charged narrative. Every element—from the storyline to the visual composition—was crafted to evoke deep emotion, focusing on shared human experiences and resilience. The process involved a lot of collaboration, aligning creative minds to make sure the vision of the film stayed consistent and powerful. This journey demanded not only creativity but a strong understanding of leadership in film, as guiding a team toward a unified vision is key to any film’s success.

The ability to see the potential in a script and guide a team in bringing that vision to life makes a great leader, sparking creativity and collaboration across the production process.

This includes navigating budgets, securing funding, and handling distribution and marketing strategies. For Dinobi, balancing creativity with practicality was key. The budget had to cover everything from pre-production to post-production while leaving room for unexpected costs. Securing distribution deals and positioning the film for different global audiences were also vital for ensuring it is financial and artistic successful. Leaders who combine creative vision with business savvy can craft impactful films while ensuring their profitability.

During Dinobi's production, effective communication was essential. Whether it was articulating the creative direction to the crew or negotiating with investors, clear, concise, and diplomatic conversations were key to keeping everything on track. Good leaders listen, resolve conflicts with diplomacy, and offer constructive feedback to maintain harmony and progress on set.

With my background in video editing, I've gained extensive experience with post-production processes and editing software. This has been invaluable in my role as a filmmaker, as I understand the capabilities and limitations of different cameras, lighting setups, and editing techniques. Being able to speak the technical language fosters stronger collaboration with the crew and ensures a smoother production process, enhancing the overall creative output.
