Revisit your organisational values to ensure a safety first attitude and approach is enshrined in these values. Work with industrial bodies, volunteer associations and your OH&S people to engage across the organisation. Use technology to promote and embed a safety first culture. Simple things such as a safety first message on organisational email footers, access to mandatory online safety first training packages. I used to start meetings with a safety first share from one attendee. It worked really well because firefighters are always keen to learn from other’s experiences. Changing organisational culture is the key to medium to long term organisational success. And, as an executive, look for quick safety wins and embed them. Cheers 🙂

Hold a meeting, get the team to talk about their concerns. If the workers feel like they have a voice they will be more likely to engage is safe behavior. Reassure them that lessons are indeed useless if not intergrated. I personally would be interested to hear why someone would be reluctant about their own safety.

To address a systemic issue, I would initiate a comprehensive change management process. First, I'd conduct a thorough root cause analysis to identify the underlying problems. Then, I'd collaborate with key stakeholders to develop a clear vision and strategy for the desired future state. To ensure successful implementation, I'd establish effective communication channels to keep everyone informed and engaged. I'd also provide necessary training and support to empower employees to adapt to the changes. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, I'd motivate the organization to embrace the transformation and achieve sustainable results.

First, analyze the available data, including safety performance reports, incident reports, hazard reports, and risk assessments, to find trends. Compare it with the applicable standards. Then, review the safety policy and make necessary changes If applicable. Communicate the changes to all levels of employees through campaigns, emails, and briefings.
