What are some ways to encourage parents to be proactive in their child's education?

Always attend the Fall Open House and meet each of the teachers. It shows interest and accountability. Get to know the teacher's strengths. Present your child's unique learning style. Ask for help as early as possible. These techniques show a collaboration and willingness to learn without being defensive.

The first issue is to understand that it is not necessary to be successful in going to university and getting accepted. Other life and professional skills are also very important. Parents should understand this

Attend, watch, read the minutes of your local school board meetings. ACTIVELY engage in your child's school (PTA, parties, community nights, charities, etc.) Also, find time to participate in a nonforprofit that supports children in your area. You will become highly aware of the needs of children, schools, and families.

I was really interested to see that Microsoft Teams has just announced that there will be a function for parents to track their children’s Teams assignments and also see various analytics. I think this has a lot of potential to enhance regular communication - indeed, it also deals with the issue that regularly communicating can be quite time consuming for teachers: technology has a lot to offer here.

Parent Teacher Meets are super important, particularly, if and when it is found that the child is unable to absorb the instructions.

Ellos, junto con los alumnos, deben saber el programa, objetivos y actividades que se esperan de ellos para poder concretar y cerrar el círculo de trabajo colaborativo. Es fundamental para el profesor también reconocer el tipo de padres que tienen sus alumnos porque, lamentablemente, no todos tendrán la disponibilidad o disposición para lograr involucrarse al 100% en el trabajo escolar. El grupo de WhatsApp puede ser una excelente herramienta, la cual debe ser usada bajo reglas muy específicas con base al rol académico que se espera de ambos lados para no entorpecer el flujo de la información.

Give the child more time to speak and tell school stories , listen carefully and pick the main issue and discuss accordingly. You can give the title to your time like "school stories time" "talking time" etc . The best time is while driving , between kitchen/house chores , supper time . Keep this time separate from study time otherwise the child will be distracted.

At my children's school, they do something really interesting. Every year, they allow parents to come and deliver a presentation on a topic in a field they feel comfortable with. One of the mothers works in a lab, and she brought a sample of her lab paraphernalia, explaining how things worked. Some other parents shared recipes, and I had the opportunity to present on the history of Yorkshires (a dog breed). I explained everything about our dog, Princess, and at the end, the children had a chance to play with her. It was a lot of fun, and parents felt like they actually had something valuable to contribute.

This is a harder as the time parents have to be involved after work/ after we as humans are starting to get tired from the day. Creo que la mejor manera de buscar la participación de los padres sin ser invasivos o demandantes es a través de proyectos en los cuales los padres forzosamente deban involucrarse. Existen muchas proyectos transversal que pueden hacer de manera colectiva y con algunas otras materias. Un proyecto de trabajo escolar podría ser el árbol genealógico, dónde se recaban documentos (fotos, cartas, etc.) e información de los padres. Aquí puede trabajarse desde el punto de vista histórico, demográfico, social, etc.

Teachers and parents, school and home these combos make a perfect personality . If anyone lacks attention there may arise flaws . Parents must help their kids to be initiators and volunteers. Parental involvement in school is a wonderful tool which allows children to become comfortable with having their parents at the school. Parental involvement also allows parents to better support their child at the school and provides for communication opportunities, trust and bonding between parent and child as well as the school community and the home.

When working with parents, I often find that they are very under-resourced in their ability to help their children, and this is partly why the expectations fall to the educator for roles traditionally addressed by the child's home life. While this is not appropriate it is part of the reality right now. Being clear about the roles that I have and the roles I expect a parent to have can help them to understand what needs I expect they will help their child meet so that I can support their child as best as possible. It's best if this is put in writing, this exercise can also help newer teachers to define for themselves the classroom they plan to run.

En mi experiencia, los padres que de verdad están comprometidos e interesados con la buena educación de sus hijos se acerca solos y se involucran de manera activa desde antes de ingresar a la escuela. Yo trato siempre de alentarlos a través de los logros y/o fortalezas de sus hijos y esto algunas veces se debe hacer de manera directa, buscando enorgullecerlo para que sepa que aunque sea poco a poco su trabajo como padre es fundamental para el desarrollo cognitivo y emocional de su hijo.

A Teacher can't act like a parent and parents can't act like teachers, both the parties have their own well defined roles and responsibilities which are quite different. They need to sit together on a common issue of a child to help him become a better person . For this communication between the two parties after short intervals is mandatory. It can be physical meetings, diary notes, phone calls, what's app messages, zoom meeting etc even work shops for the parents about parenting helps a lot.

Indeed, parent school community collaboration, creates self awareness, confidence and empowerments for the parents, school, child and community. The school and community is able to create a pool of experts which can be used to positively impact on development of excellent educational goals. Education which recognizes that diversity and leads to student success.

All parents must celebrate that every child is special. Celebration in positive words, e.g this is great work, you have done well, I love this, a hug, making time to stop and praise the efforts of the child, a day out or creation of a corner or the fridge top to display the child's work, no matter what is a stimulating, self awareness and a special gift which parents can give. Your child will bloom if you make the time to be a positive influencer in their life.

Every individual needs recognition of the work inputs and results for continued performance. Often actual results may differ from the intended or desired results. This is a direct method of obtaining feedback from the system about the process and the outcomes. It also provides a mechanism for course correction required, if any. Mere mention of work and success does wonders. Celebration is like a booster dose. Sharing success of student work eg monthly certificates, medals, posts on the notice boards, publication in school magazine / bulletin etc are all ways to bring about joy of achievement in the child.

Without a relationship with the parents and student, there is reluctance and no buy in to what is being taught. There's nothing worse for a parent to learn half way through a semester that their child has not been doing the work or making progress. The teacher can't do it alone! Accountability and expectations at home are needed if it there are expectations at school that engagement, participation, and work completion are the norm. I work with outstanding teachers that create innovative lesson plans, yet we only get them for a short amount of time. Students work at a different pace so some work must be done at home. Teachers need parents as much as parents need teachers. If there is a team mentality, the child gets to be successful!

In my experience, building trust and rapport with parents as a teacher / school counsellor is the most important and critical factor in getting them to be proactive in their child's education. - Firstly it encourages collaborative support. A united front ensures consistent support for students both academically and emotionally. -When parents trust the educators / school counsellor, they are more likely to be involved in their child's education. - Trust is also the foundation for effective communication. Once that is established, open and transparent communication ensures that all stakeholders are informed and can work together to address any challenge or concerns that may come.

Parents often lack confidence when dealing with teachers. They don't understand the jargon and often work themselves as well - limiting opportunities for contact with the school. My three attended special school at primary level and we found home-school diaries invaluable. We could note anything of interest in it ( for example if a child hadn't slept well) and they could note anything they wanted us to know - (like an achievement, or some reading for homework). While I appreciate it is another "task" it wasn't completed every day, but was always valued. Sometimes the Classroom Assistant filled it in, or the Head or Deputy - whoever had something to say. It built an excellent relationship between the staff and the family.

We could revolutionize and amplify parent engagement, we must first lay the foundation of trust and rapport, which I will always view as the most vital step. Communicating to parents about observations you have as a teacher can be precarious, as no one wants to suggest their child has an answer, and diagnosing is of course out of scope. However, with the increasing number and complexity of learning and mental/physical health challenges that our children are facing, it's more important than ever to have a system by which these can be discussed with Administration. Parents are often preoccupied until they are directly told there is a problem. A teacher's job is not to handle a child's dysregulation if the dysregulation is an outward expression of an underlying need that requires outside help.
