One should be able to read between the lines. This can be a good starting point.

Monthly Report to cover all pillars of your function (People, Process, Technology)

Upper management have their minds busy with stuff and have a vague idea of what the others are doing. The key to accepting responsibility and keeping them in the loop about important things, enables us to be seen as a key talent. By doing this we are showcasing our voice and the understanding of the concerns of the leaders. When I have discussed with leaders they always appreciate this initiative, they lookout for such talent and keep communicating with them.

To impress your higher-ups, be proactive. Spot problems before they blow up and fix them. Don't just bring issues bring solutions. Ask for advice but take charge. Show you're responsible, and take the lead.

TO SUPPORT DOESN'T MEAN YES MAN. At early stage bof manage up, you probably say a lot of yes to the ideas and decusions for a purpose : they get trust. Along the way, when trust is given and relationship more egalitarian, you may provide second opinions, challenges, or even deliver Hegelian Dialectic : thesis-antithesis-synthesis. Again, whatever you do is to protect their reputation. Later, to improve their reputation, while you ride the the wave for your higher calibre.

I fundamentally disagree with quite a lot of this statement. Some of the problems we are facing in business now are as a result of people blindly following without questioning. We know that the most advanced level of psychological safety is challenger safety. Great leaders encourage challenges and demonstrate situational humility, so they admit when they don't have all the answers. They involve their teams in decisions wherever practicable and are not threatened by questions & challenges. I agree with accepting and executing to the best of our ability, but we really do need to understand the rationale behind decisions.

Appreciation is both ways. It need not be always top down. When we appreciate support, decisions and actions of our leaders it gives them sense of being heard and approval from the team that decision/action was well received. It also demonstrates a culture of speak up which is imperative when you are part of large organisation.

If it’s not the case, you have to work to be seen as a trusted resource, a safe pair of hands that can tone up or down when needed. Don’t be afraid of your team-members (especially the most senior ones) having a relationship with your boss(es); you’re a leader not a micro-manager. As much as you expect to be empowered to make decisions, to plan and deliver, give them the space to grow. Let your actions speak louder.

USE THEIR WAY OF THINKING To manage up your senior managers, start with understanding their way of thinking. Top positions start with belief-think-do model. They will say :" I believe, therefore we need to think and figure out how to do it" People in the entry level job do the opposite : do-think-belief, will say :" We need to do it, in order to believe!" It is interesting to understand the middle level model : think-do-belief, or think-do belief? When different model of both party is applied, it will potentially create unnecessary or counter productive debate, just to get aligned during managing up.

BE THE LEADING HANDS Senior leaders are ambiguity definition. They can be senior as age become the rank, or simply meritocracy. Both are fine, and need to manage up with differences. Senior leader by meritocracy normally focus on more visionary and big pictures. You may play your role in leading hands of key factors of the big picture. In OKR model, when your senior leader focus on Objectives, you may contribute strongly in Key Results. More tasks oriented. Senior leader in age, you may manage up in OKR model completely, by perceiving those are guided and directed, and politically and or culturally perceived as the boss direction. Manage up the feeling and perception are keys, on top of functionality. It's more to human oriented.
