Entrepreneurship or Having your own practice is the most challenging thing every architect go through on its own without having any idea what they are stepping into. Your Time is not yours and in INDIA you end up filling your day more or less on 100s of calls of superviors , clients etc. Effective Time Management and availablity over calls is an important skill to learn here. While working 12-14 hours daily having a balance between architecture, entrepreneurship and personal life seems impossible but I still recommend to schedule breaks and hire great team which can reduce your efforts and you can make time for more important things as a boss.At the end, It's upto your prefrence whether you act like an architect or entreprenuer.

Actually for me time management has been a struggle. However embracing my ADD diagnosis whilst still pursuing my Barchelors worked to my advantage. I put most of my energy on small & exciting tasks that are easy to tick off my list.Then I proceed to Important tasks that affect my cashflow & operations. For other business operations I invest my time and money in training my assistants and outsourcing professional service. This has allowed me to pursue other business interest and to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.

Strategic planning is vital for architect-entrepreneurs. Define clear goals for your architectural practice and business, including niche identification and target clientele, to make informed decisions and stay on track for success.

Financial understanding is crucial for architectural businesses. Master budgeting, pricing, cash flow management, tax planning, and savings. Consider using accounting software or hiring a professional for financial health while focusing on architectural work.

As part of my career development and continuous learning,I pursued short courses with University of Capetown in the subjects of Property development & Construction management. The experience opened up my interest in property management & development of which I have now realised some great opportunities. It makes it easy to tred in and outside your industry with some training and experience. Leveraging on new information and training to expand a career Portfolio is a must in an ever-changing work environment.

Ultimately, if your passion is design and you find fulfilment in immersing yourself in architectural work, then embracing opportunities for growth, collaboration, and creative expression within the field of architecture will be your primary focus. While you may not feel the need for strict balance between design and other pursuits, it's still important to maintain a healthy work-life integration. Make time for activities outside of work that nourish your creativity, rejuvenate your spirit, and contribute to your overall well-being.
