The biggest problem I see in a lot of campaigns and ads is that they don't find the right balance between emotional storytelling & incentivizing attention. Cancer stories being emotionally charged, it's imperative to find ways to get the viewer/ lead to tune in, and not move away because of how "heavy" the story is. Besides, knowing cancer survivors myself, I know that most times, they want their stories to spark inspiration & empowerment. Turning the narrative away from fear-mongering to empowerment can tune people in. ALS ice bucket challenge is a great example we can try to emulate.

To to craft an effective stories, every story needs a hero. A hero is someone who overcomes the obstacle, every hero needs a guide, who helps hero achieve his/her goals, and a story needs a conflict, which could be an internal conflict or an external conflict. And the end the story needs a conclusion. For a cancer awareness campaign patients are the hero and the hospital is the guide, helping hero achieve the outcome they are looking for the conflict is the treatment options and the conclusion is the cancer free patient.
