I feel its powerful to use these tools in 3 different points: 1. The start of the event, to increase the anticipation and to make the Kick-start of the Event to be Focused and Cathartic for the Participants. 2. Give Experiences and Sessions when the audience can reflect in silence on what they just heard. 3. During Sessions Speakers need too use this tool to make sure the audience is listening and ready to digest what they will be talking about.

People get more interested and focused. • Change of Pace: Speak slower at times and pause to make important moments feel more serious. • Nonverbal Communication: Use pauses to let your face and body show how you feel, adding to the excitement. • Questioning: Pause after asking a question to make people think about the answer. • Background Music or Sound Effects: Use quiet times with music or sounds to make moments more intense. • Visual Effects: Use light or pictures with pauses to make things more dramatic. • Storytelling: Pause at important parts of your story to make it more exciting.

I’ve used silence midway through a second act to create a sense of focus, shock and emotion. Within the context of the music show Be Bop a Lula, we included a very lively Buddy Holly set, I gradually wound it down with an acoustic song from Buddy (the last song he ever recorded-Learning the Game) before a blackout, silence and a radio announcement about his death along with Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper, more silence then a solo spotlight on Eddie Cochran singing 3 stars (a song about all three of these guys). The audience were regularly crying and in the theatre you could hear a pin drop. Then, explode it all up again for the finale. I think this is a decent example of using silence to create a desired dynamic within a theatre event.

To register any dramatic scene or change over to another sequence in your mind few seconds of pause or silence, which will give more impact on audience.

Change of tones always work. I personally use this technique during my sessions to grab a quick attention and focus of my audience. Pause points toward something really important and silence is non negotiable

Adding pause and silence right at the beginning in the introductiokn session creats anticipation and heightened attention inorder to findout the main topic. As the heart races and pupils dilate, thats when the audience will fully focusses on the subject matter waiting for the main idea to be mentioned. This focus smoothly transitions the first seconds into minuts then hours.

Meditation is something that centers me every day. Quiets the noise, helps me clear my mind of all the hustle and bustle of the day. I do a mental check of how each part of my body is feeling. Have I been at the grind too long, do I need to stretch, walk or am I doing great. Helps me refocus and renew energy to keep on chugging.

I have seen from experience that a silence after introducing a climax initiates the audience to give responce in an attempt to fill the void. Whether audibly in the cases of Auctions or in silence in different religious activities. It gives time for the audience to position themselves in a position of response with regards to the climax introduced. I believe the longer the pause the biggger the response until the curve reaches the limit. After that limit reactions might drop significantly as the group looses patience and the anticipation fades away.

When training to be a professional executive coach, we were taught and practiced active listening. Surprisingly difficult to bite down on the instinct to fill a silence, but as I have seen over and over again, the things that happen in the space between the words can be far more powerful than the words themselves. We all need time to process information properly and in this hyper-stimulated world we live in, silence is a precious commodity. To help me remember to create and hold that space, I use the acronym: W.A.I.T - Why Am I Talking Especially if I want someone to properly process or prepare to answer an important question... I think the first step is to become comfortable with being silent in front of an audience. You can practice in front of a mirror, but I'd recommend using a test audience who can give you concrete feedback.

I worked for an editor once who would constantly crop images - page after page of tightly cropped photographs. Though he was far senior to me ..and in those days deference was constantly adhered to - I questioned his decision to constantly crop? If every image is cropped - how can you make an impactful image? Answer.. allow the subject to stand within its own space.. requiring the viewer to pause and maybe join the dots. Without the spaces between a symphony, rather like a tyre, becomes flat.

Silence is not an easy thing to master. Our initial reaction to any break in a conversation, relationship or even landscape is to fill the gap. It's only natural to think filling the gap would break the tension and aid in point making. Unfortunately that results in the opposite effect. While scilence on the other hand gives the audence time to process the information and accept or reject personally inorder to respond anf interact. An event without the right about of pause and silence is like dumping a truckful of cement, gravel and sand and expecting it to be a house. Just like the cement, gravel and sand have their on sequence in mixing and setting so does every idea introduced in a live event. The slience aids in processing and forming.

I'm not an expert in presentation or speech. However, I do believe that a break, pause, silence, or whatever you call is really important for the audience to follow the speaker. In other words, they sometimes need time to think about. In Japan, there is Rakugo which is a kind of funny one-man storytelling. They efficiently use a break so that the audience can follow the story easily. I'm not good at it but wanna try to use a break more often.

This positive energy will impact how you behave in front of the audience and radiate from you.

Professional speech could be a decisive part of any event. It may as much positively influence the outcome as it can create big negative impact on the whole. Using the pause and silence technic helps to keep the audience focused on the subject, IF it is wisely used, thus help the success of the speaker.

Adding silence doesn't only apply to "events". Its applies to any converation, argument, negotiation or video making and so on so forth. Its a skill that if matered aid in the ability to control outcomes to ones desires. When buying anything at the fleemarket for instance its easy to bargain with just silence and going away gestures. The seller immediately starts to react to the silencr in an effort to fill the gap and "have the final say to win". But in doing so, they fall right in to the price range of the buyer. If mastered right, it gives great power in controlling the outcome of any situation.
