The 1st thing the security team should do each morning is to review latest security risks & zero-day attacks in the wild (SANS Internet Storm Center, CISA, and other security sites). A couple of decades ago we did this & saw Blaster, Love bug, Klez, etc, very early & had only very minor impacts. Patching in advance & even sending a simple bulletin to all employees for a major attack mitigates risk. Monitor the security logs & violations closely - always looking for unusual activity patterns.
